Saw it and really liked it, but I'm a little bit disappointed that I didn't love the movie. The humor didn't bother me at all during the movie before we got closer to the ending... And yeah, it was over done.
To me, the humor actually felt kinda natural and real when Damon was alone in Mars and he had to figure out how to survive (many will most likely disagree, that's fine). Especially when he started to succeed in it, the humour made me care about his character
but when the whole disco music started to play in the background (haha very funny for the 16th time in the movie) close to the climax, it started to feel little too much like watching Guardians Of The Galaxy or something, and during the climax when Damon was flying in space and making actual Iron Man jokes – it was really distracting, especially when the movie had just started to show real drama, like two minutes before that...
Still one of the better movies this year, I guess my expectations just were a bit too high 8 / 10
Really good movie. Although, there seems to be an issue with 3D glasses watching a movie - it literally felt like I was wearing sunglasses - about 2 stops of light loss. I wished it were a lot brighter, so I felt the scenes of the Mars surface didn't really pay off for me as there was too much light loss caused by the 3D glasses.
The scenes where they seamlessly space-walked into the slide down the rails were possibly the best special effects of the movie, because it looked slick and it was interesting to see zero-g switch off due to the centrifugal force of the spinning wheel section of the ship - never saw that kind of transfer of zero-g to gravity before in a movie.
The disco music was funny, but there was one section of it where they showed the ship in space and I wanted them to turn off the disco and use some atmospheric space music instead. Other than that - solid movie!
Just goes to show that Scott needs a great script to make a great movie and that means he should probably get someone talented to write the scripts for him instead of writing them himself, although we saw what happened with the Counselor so there's no guarantee.
I have no doubt that I won't remember this film in 2 years though because films set in space and involving NASA aren't exactly my favourite type of films but that my own bias so there you go.
