wow

It's been a while since this has seen any love. Who's everyone's favorites at the moment? Have they changed over the years? I know mine have.
Spielberg and Hitchcock are my favorites of all-time. Nolan is easily the number one director now and he's closing in on those two for me. I really hope Tenet will be a return to form.

As for some other modern favorites you cannot not mention Tarantino, both Andersons, Cuaron or Fincher (if he's still making movies :P ). However these are all guys who have been doing their thing for decades now. When it comes to relative newcomers, I'm very excited for Jordan Peele, Damien Chazzelle, Gareth Evans, Steve McQueen, David Robert Mitchell, Joseph Kosinski and Taika Waititi.

I understand that u don't like Dunkirk, but, holy shit, it doesn't mean this movie was bad. For many people it was his best to date.

Still Kubrick and Nolan.

Who are yours?
Good question. Hmm...

I'd probably go with Villeneuve, Favreau, Zahler, Reitman, and Tarantino. Those are the first ones that come to mind.

French directors: Pagnol, Tavernier, Truffaut, De Broca, Demy
Italian: Visconti
English: Powell&Pressburger
American: Wilder, Coppola, Ford, Hitchcock, Capra
Czech: Forman
German: Ophuls

Current: Nolan, Chazelle

All time: Ophuls, Demy, Coppola, Nolan

Note: I don't suppose many know of De Broca: even in France, he's been way too much forgotten imo. But every time I watch one of his film, I understand what he wants to do, what dragged him to the project, I just feel the movie the way the director intended me to without effort.
