It's very bizarre down here with our internet laws. Piracy is a big issue, but there are many methods we can fight it, but no action has been taken against it. Creating something like a Netflix or a Video-On-Demand would really help.

This is kind of a big deal.
yea

network TV is in major troublemif this is the case
Wait, why would network TV be in trouble if they start counting in Amazon and Netflix? Wouldn't, say, a show like Hannibal benefit greatly from this sort of thing?

Because Netflix has a 50 million subscriber base so getting data on that (even the fraction Nielsen will be getting from desktop readings) is insanely important. It's pretty much irrelevant to Netflix itself (obviously they have internal numbers and unlike cable and Network where Nielsen helps determine value of Ad revenue which Netflix doesn't make money from), but it could give a huge public image boost. Not only further legitimizing digital streaming services as being just as good if not superior in clout to a premium TV channel, but if even a fifth of that user base was revealed to have tuned into, say, House of Cards, that makes House of Cards one of the most watched TV shows both by cable and network standards. In short, it only means good things for Netflix and digital distribution as a whole.
