A period piece set in 1983, the story is centered on a successful businessman who is obsessed with maintaining his oil empire. The story kicks in when he and his wife cross paths with high-powered lawyers, wealthy bankers, dangerous teamsters and a shady district attorney.
Your next film, "A Most Violent Year," has been in the news for some of the casting, but I don't really know what it's about.
I know and it's totally premature, that casting news. Not that those people may not end up in the movie.
What is it about?
It's set in 1981 in New York City, which actually is the most violent year on record. And it's a period film about sort of midsize business people and there's a bunch of conflict. But, the casting that's out there right now...
Which we've heard are Jessica Chastain and Javier Bardem...
Yeah. And a couple of other people. That didn't come from us. But, you know, it's really exciting and I've been working on it for awhile and we're probably going to shoot it in, I would think, mid-winter to late winter this year. It's all teed up and financed and ready to go.
J.C. certainly has a lot of opportunities coming his way so we’ll see whether he wants to go make a really big movie or whether he wants to stay in this type of scale. His third movie, we’re working on that, we’ll shoot that in early 2014. Which is called A Most Violent Year, and we have some other really cool things coming down the pipe.
Chastain's still attached, but Bardem is no longer in this, and shooting starts in January.
All Is Lost director J.C. Chandor told me he forgot to wear his Academy pin that he got when he joined a couple of years ago. He was celebrating his last night out before starting his next film, The Most Violent Year (it was 1981 he says, followed closely by 1991). He said he needs to make some money now. Too many potholes in his driveway to fix. Jessica Chastain will co-star with a male lead soon to be announced.
And (maybe) one reporter from USA Today has the exclusive of the male lead, although the tweet no longer exists

Oscar Isaac went to Julliard w/ Jessica Chastain & in January they're starring in J. C. Chandor's next film together. #SuccessfulSentences
It's weird to see that I'm the only one who posts here.

A little bit late, but cool. Seems that Chastain and their constant appearances at the awards circuit were elemental to Isaac being casted. Also, this must be bigger than Chandor's previous efforts if Participant is finacing. Finally, Stanley Tucci is in talks too, it could be great since Tucci was pretty good in Margin Call. Wondering how the roles of Chastain and Tucci will play in the story.
