Watched it again yesterday, free of the youngster pests that kept screaming and kicking my seat every time something remotely 'scary' happened, and it improved a little, I accepted it for what it is. And Chastain keeps on haunting my dreams, I think Del Toro delivered mostly in the third act...
...Lucille's bloody nightgown wrath chasing Edith down the steps with a knife is still a gothic delight, beautiful and horrific as it should be. Love the Alien/Ghostface sound of the blade slicing through air.
Call it a disappointment turned into guilty pleasure based on a wonderful performance and yes, appreciation for set artistry.

I'm on the other side. Hated the third act.
Liked the movie way more when it was more about the mystery of the whole thing.
Well, the whole mystery was predictable, which is why it the middle was a drag, but I loved the execution of the final act. Would of made a fun short film hey.
