Why? If they're gonna be merely solid entries why not just give it extra bit of time and actually pull off something grand again?

There's absolutely nothing preventing them from being able to produce a good Bond film in 2 years. Not a damn thing.

Step 1 is to stop going back to the Purvis & Wade well, though.

Well, yeah. It goes both ways. But 'Bond every 2 years!' sounds a lot like something that you, as a fan, would like... I'd rather see one after a while after couple of quickies then grow tired of the familiar tune.
