Yeah same. I watched it twice, but my first viewing was awful because Skyfall was the first movie in my life that made me fall asleep in the theatres for a couple of minutes
I enjoyed the movie alot more on my second viewing though, but m'yeah dunno.. not perfect.
Some of Roger Moore's Bond movies were really fun. Stupid as hell but fun. I dont want to see that again. But ill take a cross between Casino Royale's tone and the 60s Bond films. If Mendes or a future director, with or without Craig, want to get more campy than the last few, then im good with that. But i want moments where i can take the story and character seriously. Skyfall started adding in the odd bit, but it never quite got there because Mendes was too busy trying to make sure he used that Nolan influence.
Im a bit rusty on my Bond, so this Spectre is an organization straight out of the Thunderball novel right? I think it'll be way better than the last two if they took inspiration from the old Fleming novels, rather than creating their own story from scratch. Which i believe is what they did on the last two movies. Im sure most of the 70s/80s/90s Bonds just took some book titles too, but didn't touch the stories.
SPECTRE comes from the original screenplay for Thunderball by Fleming, Whittingham and McClory, which Fleming later turned into a book. EON retroactively used it to replace SMERSH in other installments.
I really don't get the criticism that Skyfall is a plot derivative of other Bond films... it is literally the most anti-Bond plot there is (i.e. domestic, concerns itself with MI6 internally, and actually ends at Bond's lair not the villain's).

That's funny. I remember an interview
where Jesper said both Casino Royale and Quantum were considered "shit", and also stated that he wouldn't play Mr. White ever again. Maybe he was just being grumpy and drunk during that time. I don't know.
The title isn't particularly impressive but maybe it'll grow on me after the first viewing like The Dark Knight Rises. TDKR grows significant because of the context a post viewing perspective gives you though which I'm not sure how "SPECTRE" would create.
