What happened with Variety?

That title for the review is horrible lol
Ridley Scott's official return to the 'Alien' franchise is essentially a 'Prometheus' sequel with Aliens in it.

I don't necessarily expect other reviews to be more positive but yikes that's poorly written.

Gregory Ellwood‏ @TheGregoryE
Movie doesn't give the answers you want after Prometheus and is the "Alien" part is a total re-tread of first 2 Alien movies but bland (2)

All of the wonder, uniqueness of Prometheus is gone. Fassbender tries but David i now OBV villain and the twist is terribly telegraphed (4)

#AlienCovenant doesn't build upon the mythology given to us in Prometheus and that's where it fails. (2)
Other reviews are out. Decent amount are 3/5 type positive but basically sounds like it is a generic horror movie.

I much would have preferred the divisiveness of Prometheus than most people saying it is just okay or fine.

First time I've seen a review from this guy but he seems reasonable:

All around reactions are predictable, but (mostly) on the positive side.

It's exactly what i expected after the underwhelming trailers. The beautiful cinematography, style and uniqness of Prometheus is gone and we're getting a generic movie. And I like a good monster horror - I really loved this year's "Life". But for Alien, and especially Scott, to do that after Prometheus is a step backwards.
