Why did it take so long?

Christopher Nolan's 2008 mega success about Batman's attempts to defeat a criminal mastermind known only as the Joker.

I recently made a thread asking how much time had passed after the events of Batman Begins leading in to The Dark Knight, which was locked for some dumb reason I don't know why. Anyway, the response I got was one year. I'm just confused. At the end of Batman Begins they turn over the Joker card. It wasn't until one year later that he actually struck again? And it took a year for Batman to confront him? Also, Crane wasn't caught for a year? I don't know, it just seems like it's too long.

Maybe that was the very genesis of The Joker's appearance(s) in Gotham. Maybe Nolan et al wanted to tease the fanboys. Who knows? Not like TJ had a plan or anything, né?
