The 2006 film about rival magicians desperately trying to learn the secrets of each others tricks.

[SPOILER] The Last Frame...

This is one of my favourite films of all time...I think Bale, Jackman, Caine, all of them were brilliant...And above all, of course, NOLAN.... I've watched repeat viewings of this one many times....

I still don't understand why the last frame of the film is so important...It just verifies the fact we already know...That Angier clones himself every night and then kills one of the clones (or some would say : the original..) I've seen people gushing about how the last frame of the film completely floored them and how it revealed so much about the plot...Honestly, I figured that part when they show Angier drowning and Borden trying to save him..

Tell me guys, is it just me? Am I missing something?

I think it might just be the shocking image that gets people. Yes, we pretty much know what is happening, but seeing a full room of the dead clones is shocking and brings a lot of realism to the concept.

Yeah I don't think the final image is supposed to be some huge revelation to the audience, it's just a really striking image, good way to end the film.

i think it was actually given away in the very beginning of the movie, with the hats on the hill side.... and Cutter saying "you don't really want to know the answer" over it...

i think we as the audience were suppose to have it by the end... and for most the imagery won't be that shocking... but for some i guess it works well. . .
I had a hunch what was in the tanks, and i thought the reveal was cool...

After seeing Inception, it made me think more about the ending of The Prestige. Originally I took it more straightforward "this is what happens, this is how it ends," but now I've taken a "this is what happens, how do YOU think it ends?" opinion.

Of course this is all off-screen speculation, but how do we know there aren't other Angier clones out there? Then a friend of mine suggested that maybe you can see bubbles coming out of the last Angier's mouth, suggesting he can still escape.

We do see one little bubble escape. I think even a corpse would still have some gas released from it from time to time.

so hes been in a tank of water for weeks, and hes still alive? uh no. the bubble didnt even come out of his dam mouth! That was Hugh in the tank so there was going to be some movement.

I think the last frame should just make clear how unhuman Angier has become, while Borden never did anything really bad :!:

actually there's an interesting theory about a twisted final...

...what if the machine doesn't work, and clone don't exist? what if Angier has done 99 shows always with his double, and then he just killed him the last night (show n° 100).
Think about it.. the last frame shows us just "one" body clearly...

No, for starters that would be inconsistent with the character built up for us on-screen about Angier.

Do you remember Angier's reaction to when he saw the first clone? When he first realized what this thing can REALLY do? It would make no sense, so all of a sudden Angier would make great business buddies with his clone?

Also, how would he know when Borden would show up to see the show? Even if he did show up, what guarantee was there that he would go back-stage to witness the clone dying? There is no way Angier would know that on the 100th show Borden would show. That is why he killed off 100 of them, one after every show to make sure that when Borden showed up, everything else is taken care of.
