Do you think The Dark Knight Overshadows BB?

I find it unfortunate, because, even though the The Dark Knight is a better film, Batman Begins is probably my favorite comic book film of all time, right there next to the first two X-Men films and the first two Superman's. It's a lot like the first two Terminator films. :(

On another note, do you think The Dark Knight Rises will overshadow The Dark Knight?

Oh, TKD absolutely overshadows Begins. I also agree with you that TDK is the better film, but I don't think that's why it gets all the attention. I believe Heath Ledger as the Joker is largely responsible for that....

(And the recent tone of threads regarding this sort of thing isn't helping [including this one :P].)

At the rate of attention Christopher Nolan's superhero franchise has accrued throughout the years, I imagine TDKR setting a near-divine standard in terms of popular enthusiasm. Maybe I exaggerate, though. Does anyone recall a significant spike in interest in the franchise between BB's release date and TDK's release date?

Not at all. They're both excellent films and I see them as chapters in a 3 acts story. BB is a great chapter one. If you loved TDK, is because BB set you up properly for that.

No matter how great TDKR might be, BB and TDK already made their marks.

It doesn't for me but unfortunately it does for some others. I work with a person who didn't know BB exist and thought TDK was the only film. It made me  in disgust. I still prefer BB over TDK even though I consider both masterpieces.

Yes, TDK does overshadow BB a lot. TDK is a better film overall, but BB is a better superhero film.

The sad thing is, TDK overshadowed most of Christopher Nolan's other films in the public eye.
Inception is probably the only exception.

Begins is just the most obvious. But personally though, I think the film that really suffered is The Prestige.
