does he even have an own life?

well i get that he is really loyal, but he seems to actually live for the wayne family. is he actually devoting his whole life to them?

the whole character seems to be constructed only to push bruce into the right direction...

am i missing something?

Seems like he just doesn't want to, in TDK Bruce was joking that he never took a day off.

He had time back in the old days to burn forests down, but now he's a commited man.

The movies have revealed that he has a very deep respect for Bruce's father. It seems to me that he probably wanted to work with a man like him and found his most useful position was as his butler and confidant.

the movies just wouldnt be the same without alfred!!!!

He likes men and has his sights set on Bruce. He's waiting for the day when they will be old men together.

he used to be quite a bounty-hunter or something I guess

Alfred's whole life is to stay loyal to the Wayne family, it's his only priority
