Ugh, Memento or Amelie should've won.

Shouldn't Memento have been up for best adaprted screenplay? Jonathan had already written the story, even though it wasn't published until later.

That's why the academy said they nominated it under "original", mainly because the short story had not been published yet.

correct, they ruled that the short story wasn't published yet and there for it was an original screenplay.

Memento DID deserve that award...
I respect mr. Altman, but Memento has one of the best scripts ever written...
