Nolan Fans

Okay, I don't know if anyone else has this problem when watching Christopher Nolan's commentary tracks on movies, but I'm having a huge one:

I've watched the commentary tracks for Following and Memento, and I desperately feel as though I'll have to rewatch both because Nolan makes such compelling films but speaks in such a soft voice about technical aspects of filmmaking.

Has anyone else had this problem? I mean, the things he says on the commentaries are quite interesting, but in order to pay any attention to them while the film is on the screen, I'm forced to close my eyes and just listen to what he says. However, when I do that, I miss the benefit of seeing the visuals accompany his explanation. But it's an awful loop, because I open my eyes out of frustration and, what do you know, I miss 5 to 10 minutes of his commentary again because I'm watching a tattoo-covered man try to make logical sense out of a life he experiences but doesn't know with a brilliant story-telling structure.

I guess the real problem here is that Nolan's films are so damn good, I can't actually pay any attention to him talking over it.

What an odd conundrum.

So I'll ask again...has anyone else had this problem?

I just got my special edtion 3-disc of memento. I will let you know if I have the same problem when i watch it with commentaries

I doesn't like to talk about his films I reckon...
I think he is the kind of artist who expects the audience to come out with their own opinion about the film not the kind that likes to explain every single aspect of the film and show off how awesome he is.
that's why he stop doing commentaries after "Batman Begins" if Im not mistaken, there wasn't any for "The Prestige"...

I listened to the one for Following, and I didn't have that problem. Maybe its because I saw that movie so many times and I could focus on his voice and not just the visuals?

I just listened to the memento commentaries again, Chris Nolan is intelligent as hell, the guy is ahead of everyone and everything I tell ya, what an artist.

I remember grabbing Batman Begins and Prestige on DVD but there were no commentaries. Would want to listen to his commentaries soon.

just listening to the memento commentaries my friend.

I just rented Memento on bluray so i'll finally be able to listen to Nolan's commentary for the film.
Apparently he did alternate versions of the commentary for some scenes in the film to purposely keep the mystery intact.

I've listened to a bit of the Memento commentary and I haven't really encountered this problem. I don't really listen to many commentaries anyway.

His commentaries for Memento is extremely fascinating but just like OP I have the same problem:
