Re: The Nolan Variations (Oct 2020 Book)

I finished this a few weeks ago. Absolutely essential reading for anyone who posts here on the regular. The chapters about his time at school were super informative, and the chapter on Dunkirk only elevated my appreciation for that movie’s artistic brilliance. The fusion of sound effects and score i...

Re: Nolan's downfall.

I would argue he hasn’t really elevated into the upper echelon of the great film directors until he’s weathered withering scorn and criticism from the commentariat writ large; which is basically what’s going on now with commentators insinuating that he is totally cool with people getting sick and dy...

Re: Rank all of Nolan's films

It is really something how wildly diverging all of these rankings are. I can’t think of any filmmaker whose list of films gets such different reactions. Most filmmakers have obvious hits and misses, but with Nolan people have highly subjective reactions.

Re: Tenet - Box Office Autopsy

$334 million given the circumstances so far is pretty amazing. They’re 100% gonna re-release this again sometime next year in limited runs where they can, particularly NYC. Still haven’t seen it but read a copy of the script.

Re: Tenet - Box Office Discussion/Speculation

Here in NYC all of the theaters are still shut. Indoor dining starts at the end of the month. Perhaps theaters will open around the same time. They’re obviously gonna have to grind it out for the rest of the Fall. The infection rate here is super low. We just have to take it a week at a time.

Re: The Films Nolan should direct

I think Christopher Nolan's next film should be from the Fantasy genre. To me, he would be great at creating a film based on the 1998 Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time . For a long time I’ve thought that if he had to return to franchise movies, the Zelda series would be a huge o...

Re: The Films Nolan should direct

I doubt anyone would be writing any hit pieces and I did specifically say it doesn’t need to tell “a woman’s story”. Having JDW in Tenet doesn’t mean it’s telling a “black man’s story”. It’s just a cool spy action with a very neat concept. It’s more often that characters in Nolan’s films just happe...

Re: The Films Nolan should direct

That would be super cool. However I’m loathe to think of the potential hit pieces saying Nolan doesn’t have the authority/knowledge to tell a woman’s story, even if he tried to make it as non controversial as possible. Damned if he does, damned if he don’t. Hopefully the story and responses would be...

Re: The Films Nolan should direct

Even mediocre directors fail upward constantly. Nolan will be more than fine after Tenet. Covid is a once in a century pandemic.

Re: Tenet Reviews/Reactions [Possible SPOILERS]

https://i.imgur.com/ST6ElMh.jpg  These people are so mentally unwell. Anyone who watched Dunkirk and thought it was covertly pro or anti Brexit is DENSE. If Nolan wanted to comment on Brexit he’d write an Op-ed for a newspaper. He and Emma Thomas give THOUSANDS of dollars to the Democratic Pa...
