Re: Box Office
My point is that factoring in the 20% on first dollar gross would be judging Oppenheimer's box office by standards that don't apply to other films. Let's put it like this: the only reason that you are sitting there trying to make calculations at all is because Mr. Nolan's '20% on first dollar gross'...

Re: Box Office
The 20% of the first dollar gross is misleading, because I'm sure that similar profit-sharing deals exist for other films also, the only difference being that they are not public info so we just don't know about them. Either you apply the same blanket rules to all films (be that 2.5x budget or whate...

Re: Oppenheimer - Awards Speculation
Just to play hypotheticals: if this had been a December release, and Mr. Nolan came out and said, "Oppenheimer is my last movie. I'm retiring." and was somehow able to present physical, irrefutable evidence that he would never make a film again, then Oppenheimer would completely and utterly sweep th...

Re: Box Office
Yeah, if India, a market that contributes at most a few million to the film's total gross, can make drastic cuts like that, then China, a market that can add potentially tens of million, defo can. Cut all the nudity, tone down the communism stuff, I don't care. We will never see that version anyway,...

Re: Box Office
Yeah, except that India's already made hard cuts, and the film's gotten the equivalent of what I believe is a PG rating there. And TENET cut a few seconds of Sator beating the shit out of Kat to secure a PG-13 rating in the UK. The boost from access to China's box office is well worth the trade-off,...
