Re: First Man (2018)

^^^^^^^^ I agree with alot of what you say. For me it was one of the only times in recent memory that I have come out of the cinema with my expectations surpassed. Thinking about it afterward, certain filmmaking choices I was surprised by or disliked somewhat, make more sense now (to me at least) an...

Re: First Man (2018)

I have to say I am confused over the adoration for the score. Much of its /heavily/ influenced by temp. What’s truly original is fine, if not simple and a little too understated imo. I personally like the score alot but I do agree that he may have been influenced by temp or at least other scores in...

Re: First Man (2018)

Saw this today (non IMAX).

The landing sequence is breathtaking cinema. Want to see it again in IMAX before I come to any concrete conclusion but it's safe to say I really like it.

Re: mother! (2017)

Finally watched this again, this time with brother, and picked up on couple of more things along the way. But what stuck with me the most was that chaotic finale in the house, right before... ...mother delivers the baby. That particular scene perfectly captures the state of fandom(s) nowadays; the ...

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)

What's the thinking re the score/soundtrack? With a 'Once Upon a Time....' title it might be tempting for QT to get Morricone to write something for the film, even if it's one song, a la Django.

Re: Suspiria (2018)

To most Guadagnino seems to have come out of no where. Even in Italy, it really wasn't until Call Me By Your Name that he has felt part of the Italian cinematic scene. He was a sort of forgotten talent in his own country. I don't beleive I Am Love got any David Di Donatello (Italian Oscar) nominatio...

Re: Your Dream Project

Would love to see a complete cut of 'The Thin Red Line'. I understand most films leave hours of footage on the cutting room floor but reading about who and what was cut from TTRL has always made me anxious to see it. Bill Pullman, Viggo Mortensen, Gary Oldman, Jason Patric, Martin Sheen, Mickey Rour...

Re: 2018 Cannes Film Festival

The Italian cinema renaissance continues (hopefully) as Cannes. Matteo Garrone's 'Dogman' and Alice Rohrwacher's 'Happy as Lazzaro' are in main competition. The latter seems to be the early favourite. There were rumours that other Italian films may have made the cut; Suspiria (Guadagnino), Loro (Sor...
