Re: Controversial opinions about movies

As much as I enjoyed the action scenes in The Raid 2, I did feel they went on for quite a while. The whole film felt a bit like that (thought overall, it is pretty justified). I prefer The Raid because everything feels 'in the moment', it's ultra-precise, to the point but everything lasts long enoug...

The cast of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, particularly Eddie Marsan and Bertie Carvel. http://cdn.hitfix.com/photos/5848276/js_1200_article_story_large.jpg And whatever Joaquin Phoenix is up to this year. Is it a futuristic 1980s drug thriller?

I like Cruise sci-fi films.

But I dig it nonetheless.
Pretty sure I saw the TDKR plane make a cameo at some point. Or at least its cousin.

Re: Asian movies - official thread

Yeah, I'm not recommending GotF straight of the bat despite its relative accessibility. Akira and Mononoke are fair choices, though Spirited Away is the best way into (specifically) ghibli in my opinion. I think Kon is a bit too wacky for first timers (if they are).

Re: Asian movies - official thread

Well if it eases them into anime easier, then I don't see that as too much of a problem (though Vader says he wants the essence of anime or whatever). I can't agree with you when you say it's too Westernised. It's sense of tragedy and its place in history is more relatable than usual anime stuff but...
