Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

The Stanford Prison Experiment —a decent movie. It convincingly extracts an enormity of suspense and terror from a relatively benign concept through an obviously psychological lens. The premise is milked to its near maximum. The film's main downfall is the horrible portrayals of Dr. Zimbardo and Dr...

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

The Wild Pear Tree: Similar to Ceylan's last movie - Winter Sleep - in many ways, and a bit of a letdown in others. This is also over 3 hours long, and there is also lot of talk. On the other hand, it soon starts feeling a little repetitive as every conversation keeps making the same point about the...

This is what toxic fandom can do to people:
Kit Harington checked into luxury rehab for stress and alcohol

There is nothing in that article about fandom.

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

I'm not sure I agree with this Bran/Iron Throne theory, or if it's a good thing at all. Of course it makes sense if the whole prophecy about Bran simply ended with the Night King, and him being this kind of Messianic figure (not sure where that leaves Jon who was conceived out of actual prophecy) de...

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

I don't understand how everyone doesn't have 8 last. It's a season of ruined character arcs, and uneven spectacle. Are there that many good things about it, or are other seasons really worse as a whole?

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

That Night King song is really good; makes me even more pissed with how they dispensed with the character.

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

They actually did it; they saved the worst for last. Frankly I don't see how anyone who is more than a casual viewer of GoT would like the finale.

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

That Atlantic article really gets it, and also makes great point regarding the arcs of other characters. Still though, I have to question whether our eagerness to label Daenerys' decision partly mad, or at least aided by the madness that manifests in some Targaryens, is burdening her with too much T...

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

She mentioned to Tyrion that when she freed Mereen, the citizens helped overthrow the city and the citizens of King's Landing have had the chance to do the same and haven't. Maybe in her fragile state the helped justified to herself that they deserved their fate. Maybe, but I think her decision had...
