Re: Diary: A NolanFans Story

It's true that free speech is not absolute, has never been, and you could make the case that it should not be, but to equate an indiscriminating defense of free speech to Nazi talking point is frankly ingenuous, and ignores the history of liberal organizations fighting for the free speech rights of ...

Eh... Don't think that's something we should introduce; not when sites like Instagram are trying to hide likes.

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

It looks like Ray is underrated because he is not as well known to the general public as his contemporaries, but he has serious critical clout, and the French guys (at Cahiers du Cinéma) adored him. But yes, In A Lonely Place is great, and for me contains Bogart's best performance. My favorite Ray t...

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

this is a fabulous piece on why Game of Thrones deserved to win outstanding drama at the Emmy's this year despite not being the best drama this year. i agree with him almost completely. https://www.vulture.com/2019/09/emmys-2019-game-of-thrones-outstanding-drama-win.html?fbclid=IwAR3xRL6xHqqbh1uViu...

Eileen Jones with the last word:
Moral panics about provocative films like 'Joker' are as old as cinema itself. But more often than not, they're just proof of a film's merit — and of a deeply anxious middle class.

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

Good news is, it's finally over and next year, GOT obsessed Emmy voters can finally vote for the really deserving show that is Better Call Saul. I guess I always gravitated towards Game of Thrones more compared to Beaking Bad because GOT actually showed how deceit and deception and all kinds of vio...

It's almost identical to when people started trying to argue The Martian was better than Interstellar.

Re: Best TV Show Seasons of All-Time (Top 5)

This was really hard (curse of abundance right) so I made some restrictions. No shows that have already been listed, and I also avoided those that are consistently great (hard to pick among those). What remains is a list of standout seasons from shows with varying quality: Homeland 2 Hannibal 2 Farg...

Re: 2019-2020 Awards Season

I think we'll simply change the definition of Oscar Bait. The Academy has been inviting a larger and more diverse group of members in recent years, so the type of movies which were once surefire are not so guaranteed anymore. It'll still take a few more years to certify what type of movies these new...

Re: Joker (2019)

If you don't like a movie's politics fine, go ahead and make that clear in your review, though. You should still try to attempt to critic/judge the film on whether the plot and actions of the characters work within the world of the constructed film. You don't have to agree with it's message but tha...
