Re: Joker (2019)

There's hardly any DC connection. I mean, you don't even see the DC logo until after the credits.

Re: Marriage Story (2019)

This is my favorite movie of the year by far, and obviously, my current pick for Best Picture.

Re: Ford v. Ferrari (2019)

I thought this was a tad too long, and it kinda messes up its ending with a rather unnecessary scene. I saw this after a heavy night of drinking and I was afraid I'd fall asleep during it, but the race scenes are actually really well directed and quite engaging (great sound design too). And Bale ki...

Re: Joker (2019)

- This was flawed, but I was glued to the screen the entire time. - Phoenix does his best Travis Bickle impression. In fact, much of the film reminded me of Taxi Driver . - Arthur Fleck is a fully-realized character, and Phoenix 's powerhouse performance had a lot to do with that. - Though I really ...

How was Rockwell and Waititi's Hitler?
Rockwell was a joy to watch from the start.
Waititi's Hitler is more or less what one would expect. He's mostly inoffensive and kinda an affable dumb-dumb. The performance reminded me a lot of Waititi's Viago, actually.

Yeah on reflection and looking at other reactions coming out of tiff, I frankly don’t see anything topping this for film of the year. Netflix bias from AMPAS aside, this is your BP front runner folks
Driver in the film's climax. Whew.

Re: Marriage Story (2019)

This is fucking fantastic. By far my favorite Baumbach . Both leads are great ( Dern deserves a mention too), but Driver especially. Like seriously, he acts his ass off in this. It's touching, funny, and absolutely enthralling. Oh yeah, and this is my favorite film of the year so far. Can't wait for...

Re: Jojo Rabbit (2019)

I actually thought this was alright. Sure, it's one of Waititi 's weaker offerings, and it plays things too safe to really qualify as "anti-hate satire," but it's just charming enough to be a good time. The TIFF crowd I saw it with was pretty receptive, but that might just be Toronto. The cast is so...
