Re: The Irishman (2019)

There are no peaks and troughs, the whole thing is consistently and organically amazing and the best film of the year. However there is a more than a few of unnecessary (or even bad) scenes that could have been trimmed; the most egregious one is the daughter spelling out her "subtextual" meaning (an...

Yeah, it's certainly a shame that Johnson really wrapped up that one question conclusively with no wiggle-room whatsoever...

Re: 1917 (2019)

Astonishing that a director who has consistently been revered for nearly 30 years and has... what, one blip on his resume? turns out high-level work.

Who could have seen that coming.

Re: Disney+'s The Mandalorian

This is very good, surprisingly so.

Loved how lithe it was. Doesn't need an hour.

Re: Fantastic Beasts 3 (2021)

Yates is typically as good as his cinematographer.

Which is to say, get Delbonnel back and you might have something. The problem is Delbonnel won't come back.

Rousselot hasn't done anything impressive since maybe 2005.

i dug that the fighting turned into primal brawls after .05 seconds - like, i've seen enough sexy medieval fighting give me the rEaLIsm It's not quite as good as Branagh's Kurosawa-infused Agincourt, but it is probably closest anyone has come to putting us there, in the battle itself. Before they r...

Re: The King (2019)

Feeble as drama, woeful as history, misguided as adaptation. I'm really staggered by the arrogance of some choices that are distinctly less dramatic. Not only than Shakespeare, but history as well, particularly the fate of Thomas, the Duke of Clarence. In spite of all this it's OK! A good allegory a...

Hella entertaining. This is also the third Frederic March film I've seen and I still don't see "Frederic March." Mark of a good actor. Veronica Lake is truly *chefs kiss.*
March deserves to be as revered as Stewart, Fonda, Brando, etc.

Superb actor, superb career.
