Re: Joker (2019)

like I said about it earlier this year, the most dangerous (and bad) thing about the movie isn't that it promotes an incel message, it obviously doesn't, it's that it doesn't have a message period. instead, it recklessly and incoherently juggles half a dozen "hot button" issues and manages to do abs...

neat vid from nerdwriter

this isn't on Burning level for me (existential / metaphysical shit will always resonate with me more than social commentary) but it's the tightest, most fully realized movie of 2019.

Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Honouring Luke and Anakin on Tatooine is like honouring Harry Potter on 4 Private Drive. It's a damning place that they always wanted to get away from. It's somewhere that they suffered great tragedies, and their life only really started when they left that cursed planet. It's as if someone honours...

Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

I do want to be very clear I think the use of Leia's footage in TROS was a colossal mistake given how it wound up in the movie, and pretty much all her scenes are bad. It is completely unshocking to me Leia's stuff had a lot of even worse scenes that got cut. a ton of Hux/Knights of Ren/Pryde stuff ...

Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Kelly Marie Tran’s limited Rise of Skywalker role was due to Carrie Fisher CGI ‘difficulty’ https://twitter.com/vulture/status/1211354722172620801?s=21 Literally nobody believes this lol. Replies are gold. There's reasonable evidence that Terrio is telling the truth. Often, side materials take cues...

Re: Star Wars Universe Discussion Thread

just watched phantom menace and attack of the clones. if you consider the two to be in any way comparable you're out of your gourd. at worst tpm is dry and has little characterization. aotc is like watching the room. i like the noir-mystery vibes and aesthetic in aotc, and the battle is great gener...

Re: Uncut Gems (2019)

didn't say this in the thread I don't think, but one of the best movies of 2019. embodies a capitalist system of 'big business' where huge corporations and banks use other people's money to their own profit by "betting" on the market, while it ALSO represents a man trying to triumph and control the ...
