Re: James Cameron's Avatar Sequels (2021-2027)

Cameron was asked about it by every other major publication for like 6 months lol I do think we live in an unfortunately reactionary "hot take" culture, but these types of reactions weren't born on twitter in the last few years. Twitter, like all of the internet, is good or bad depending how you use...

If Avatar was released today, a large part of film twitter would obsess over it "borrowing" Native American tropes and having a "white savior" lead character.
are you unaware that was already the reaction in '09

Hollywood Theatre in Portland had a 70mm showing of Dunkirk tonight. I have a hard time saying this isn't Nolans best film. Hoytema is on his A game as well. It's gorgeous.
It is his best film. Or, at the very least, his closest to perfect.

Re: 2019-2020 Awards Season

Philips not getting in is a major highlight, although Gerwig should've gotten in over Taika or possibly Mendes (I haven't seen Jo Jo but..)

Re: 2019-2020 Awards Season

I am sure Robbie getting two supporting nominations over, say, Shuzhen Zhao, makes things look particularly bad. Still, I don't think choices should be curated outside of merit, but it reflects both bias within the voting base and the limits of the demographics in question. Hopefully the 13th will b...
