Re: Joker (2019)

If you don't like a movie's politics fine, go ahead and make that clear in your review, though. You should still try to attempt to critic/judge the film on whether the plot and actions of the characters work within the world of the constructed film. You don't have to agree with it's message but tha...

is it weaker than 2018?
2018 was an amazing year for movies imo, just most of them weren't oscar-y movies.

Re: 2019-2020 Awards Season

Are we living in a post "Oscar Bait" world?

The last few years most major movies in contention defy conventional categorization, this year most of all. That may be partly a consequence of 2019 being a weak year for movies.

Re: Joker (2019)

professional critics should leave their personal politics out of a review as much as possible. okay so if a movie has blatant sexism (True Lies) or dangerous jingoism (Lone Survivor) or racism (The Searchers) should critics leave those aspects unexamined? What about "issue" movies like Green Book? ...

Re: Joker (2019)

If critics cannot be objective in their analysis of a film then why should anyone put stock in their opinions ? okay, a few things here. 1.) you can't be "objective" while you have an "opinion" as those are mutually exclusive. 2.) if you find a human being actually capable of objectivity lemme know...

RT score is slowly falling--at 81% as of this message. Interesting to consider if the biases of North American critics are persuading their opinion of the film considering it was much more highly received in Venice.
All we bring to movies are biases. The only difference is which ones.

Re: The Batman (2021)

thing is, who cares how old is who or who in the comics vs other movies? this isn't a dig at Bacon, he's just citing that there's precedent here, which is a constructive thing to point out it's just... why can't filmmakers reinvent things as they see fit with the same freedoms we afford authors of c...
