Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Ehhh I do think Rian set him up to be the big bad though, which is so sadly, instantly thrown out by JJ. Obviously his character can’t be static through the whole film but I don’t think Rian set him up for redemption, maybe just someone whose past would be his downfall. "I held out hope for so long...

Re: No Time To Die (2020)

Jesus, this is the most expensive Bond movie ever. Spectre's budget was supposedly super inflated due to the chaotic production, but this is is 5 million more at a total 250 million.

Wonder if the shooting delays due to Craig's injury are partly why.

Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Very skeptical of these leaks for two reasons. 1.) Both the recent JJ leak and this one end in going to Mortis. That's a very weird coincidence when the JJ leak is total bullshit. 2.) The idea of Ben dying in Trevorrow's version without any redemption is completely insane and contradicts where his a...

Re: 1917 (2019)

I wouldn't compare it to Apocalypse Now so much as Gravity, even down to interweaving of visual metaphors. In Gravity you had motifs of wombs, birth, and rebirth, here there are the trees / family units and so on. Other than a few scenes here or there that indeed are very reminiscent of scenes in Du...

Re: The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019)

Jonathan Majors is probably my favorite supporting role of the year. He steals the film for me. The scene towards the end where it shows him doing all the same things but without his best friend is just beautiful. everyone involved in this is such a find. Adam Newport-Berra's cinematography....Majo...

Re: 2019-2020 Awards Season

Glad Parasite and Little Women over performed, disappointed Joker did too, angry at the exclusions.

About how the Academy does it.
