Re: Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018)

Really happy someone took a chance on director Stefano Sollima outside of Italy

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)

What's the thinking re the score/soundtrack? With a 'Once Upon a Time....' title it might be tempting for QT to get Morricone to write something for the film, even if it's one song, a la Django.

Re: Suspiria (2018)

To most Guadagnino seems to have come out of no where. Even in Italy, it really wasn't until Call Me By Your Name that he has felt part of the Italian cinematic scene. He was a sort of forgotten talent in his own country. I don't beleive I Am Love got any David Di Donatello (Italian Oscar) nominatio...

Re: Your Dream Project

Would love to see a complete cut of 'The Thin Red Line'. I understand most films leave hours of footage on the cutting room floor but reading about who and what was cut from TTRL has always made me anxious to see it. Bill Pullman, Viggo Mortensen, Gary Oldman, Jason Patric, Martin Sheen, Mickey Rour...

Re: 2018 Cannes Film Festival

The Italian cinema renaissance continues (hopefully) as Cannes. Matteo Garrone's 'Dogman' and Alice Rohrwacher's 'Happy as Lazzaro' are in main competition. The latter seems to be the early favourite. There were rumours that other Italian films may have made the cut; Suspiria (Guadagnino), Loro (Sor...

Re: Ready Player One (2018)

I suppose due to the VR aspects of this film it is supposed to look like a video game but I can't say I like what I am seeing from the trailers. Hoping the story it strong enough and it's not just a CGI mess. Spielberg has a had a very poor decade IMHO. Fingers crossed.

I'm still annoyed by this film having seen it a week ago.

Hawkins is tiresome. Del Toro's shameless approach was mediocre and at times repulsive.

Seeing Michael Shannon giving another great performance was worth the trip.

Re: Phantom Thread (2017)

Really excellent film. Only really the final wrap-up that prevents it from being my favorite of the year, for now. Need to see it again before I come to any conclusion. Will try to track down 70mm showing but not sure they ever made it to London. I needed this experience to finally push the trash th...

Re: Rank The Three Amigos (GDT, AGI, Cuaron)

IMHO Cuaron and AGI are leagues ahead of GDT. I disliked The Shape of Water quite a bit (don't get me started on Pacific Rim) I think I just don't like GDTs style.
