I want them to be together so bad. Such a giant missed opportunity. And it would actually be better stories for both chara...

Re: The Irishman (2019)

I'm marinating on it. It's good, but I wasn't blown away. Maybe coming late "in the game" to watch the movie and seeing all the glowing reviews made unrealistic expectations. Also, a little tangent here, but why does Scorsese always get a pass with his constant use of voice-over narration?? Its a e...

Re: Controversial Opinions About Movies Part II

The 2010s is Scorsese’s best decade. Shutter Island, Hugo, Wolf of Wall Street, Silence, and now Irishman. He just keeps killing it. With more work on docs and an Emmy win for Boardwalk Empire. Kind of iffy on his 2000s output though.

Yesterday I was just thinking about how much of a masterpiece this is again, and today it got pushed back by 2 months. Broke my heart.

Re: Parasite (2019)

This was a lot of fun when it wasn't being depressing. No, actually it was also fun when it was depressing. I guess my only criticism is what the film does not attempt to do. I think the tendency with a lot of films about the economic and social inequality between the rich and the poor is that they...

Re: The Irishman (2019)

Speaking of the final shot: I read somewhere else that
leaving the door open is both a callback to Hoffa leaving the door open earlier in the movie, and perhaps the final shot of The Godfather.
Maybe it’s obvious to others, but I was mind blown by this.

Re: Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)

this is completely lovely. found the formalism slightly stifling, but its visually amazing and daring and the final 5 minutes transmogrify the whole thing into the sublime. its an ode to love and the creative spirit and how those may be one and the same. as far as formal "historical attitudes threa...
