Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

Godzilla films were, for the most part, about Godzilla fighting another monster. The 1954 film was different because it was a metaphor for the atom bomb destroying Japan. Shin Godzilla recently went back to this idea in that Godzilla is a stand-in for crises and how people in authority deal with the...

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

As much as Jorah will never stop to defend Dany, I think Tyrion could change side. He respects Jon and Sansa, and his allegiance to Dany is based on his respect for her and her conviction that she will be a good queen. In the next episode, Dany could blame Tyrion for having been played by Cersei, c...

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

This article by Sean T. Collins presents a rather interesting perspective on the horror elements of the show: https://www.vulture.com/2019/04/game-of ... death.html

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

This felt much more like an episode from the earlier seasons, simply because of all the focus on character as opposed to plot. I'm grateful for that and I also am happy that this is likely as peaceful a life as these characters are going to get given what awaits them. I think the scene at the Last H...

Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

I'm beginning to think that the more marketable the characters are, the more likely the scenario that they're never really gone.

Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

The best thing about ROTS is Luke's arc I guess. The Jabba's palace and Luke/Vader/Emperor sections are the best things about RotJ. Han Solo has nothing to do in the movie and it's just another Death Star that gets blown up at the end. Also, murderous teddy bears beat the Empire (I'd say yay becaus...

you think Marquand was the auteur of RotJ but TLJ was corporate mediocrity?

lol
The Last Jedi was a *meh*diocrity at its finest: overly long, bad pacing, some cool visuals here and there and an overall fumbled attempt at doing something different with the material: admirable but mistaken.

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

I would not expect perfection from each single episode, nor would I expect everything to be terrible. Occasionally (Spoils of War, Hardhome, Winds of Winter, Battle of the Bastards, The Door, etc.) the show is better than the source material. On other occasions (Dorne, Qarth for example) the show ha...

Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

People couldn't stop complaining about the Ewoks when the movie came out and said they ruined the franchise. By the time the Prequels had ended many people had reconsidered the Ewoks mostly because by comparison they were not that bad an addition. And now, just so people can convince themselves that...

Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

So HBO posted a bunch of videos this week featuring the cast talking in 5-6 minute chunks about their experiences playing the characters on the show and what they took away from the experience on working on this show. They are all really fun and sad at the same time because in 6 weeks these actors w...
