Re: Rank the films of Quentin Tarantino

I surprisingly have a lot of affinity for The Hateful Eight. It sucks me into the narrative a lot easier than some of his other movies, and I just love seeing the dynamics between the characters. It's a shame it doesn't get more love.

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

https://i3.wp.com/pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/vulture/2012/10/30/30-denzel-deja-vu.nocrop.w529.h848.jpg It's been a long time since I've watched this movie, and I'd go as far to say I grew up watching this, so I have some sort of tenderness for it. However, I've never before realised how wrong Tony ...

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)

Rick was drunk as fuck and someone was shooting a gun off in his pool trying to murder him. Lmao. I would buy him trying to punch her, or even drown her, but cooking her with a flamethrower? It just felt like Tarantino living out his violent fantasies, which normally I'm cool with, but here it stuc...

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)

My problem with the ending... ... is that it is predicated on the audience knowing exactly what happened in real life. I can understand why some people found it cathartic, but I can't seem to justify why it had to be so violent except for QT wanting to have a bloodbath wetdream by massacring those m...

Re: Parasite (2019)

The twist threatens the entire set-up and tone of the movie... But it works. It shouldn't, but it does. Also, with that final scene, there was one point where I said "If this ends here, then this will be a perfect movie". It didn't end, but it did cut to another shot, which made me rethink the enti...

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)

For about 90 minutes, I was rather perplexed by exactly what Tarantino was trying to do with this movie. It felt like just a collection of scenes cobbled together to make something that resembled a "narrative. But then I began to realise the reason why I felt the movie meandered a lot, and why I rea...

Re: Midsommar (2019)

I got all that. I understood what it was a metaphor for. It just takes an extremely long time to get to that good stuff. It builds up and builds up, but rarely did I get a sense of where it ultimately wanted to go. Sometimes that works, like with Hereditary , but here it felt uneventful and rudderle...

Re: Midsommar (2019)

I found this to be rather thematically muddled in places. It never felt like Aster was spear-heading his themes of grief in the same way he did with Hereditary . Maybe he didn't want it feel like he's retreading those same waters, but it resulted in a lot of hollow points that I felt didn't add up t...
