Re: Amazon's Too Old to Die Young

I finished episode 4. It's both the best and worst thing Refn's done since Drive, it wildly fluctuates in quality.

Re: Nightmare Alley (TBD)

I know you're joking, but I will always have a long list of grievances with TLJ. Most of which I've expressed here. It's an unbelievably messy movie on a plot level, and Johnson is caught up in the concept of scenes rather than executing the scenes themselves. Thus why the throne room can be a terri...

Re: Nightmare Alley (TBD)

If passion and knowledge of cinema was what made great filmmakers, film academics would rule Hollywood. I enjoy the majority of GDT's work, but nobody's going to convince me his movies have much going on in them. And yes, with the exception of Shape of Water (as I say, his best) his movies are embar...

Re: Nightmare Alley (TBD)

GDT is decidedly unremarkable as a filmmaker and am on record for saying so for many years. Shape of Water is probably his best and it didn't even make my top 10 of 2017. Almost all of his movies are enjoyable, but they mostly look like TV movies.

Re: Nightmare Alley (TBD)

sure but i'd be way more willing to go cheap for PTA than GDT lol

also, a leo PTA movie? I'm sure that won't have too much trouble getting bigger financing.

Re: Nightmare Alley (TBD)

it probably means he wanted too much money.

hoping this means he'll work with PTA. that would be a dream pairing.

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

But in this case, they are *all* predictive of whether or not you'll like a movie--we all agree with these three metrics more than we don't, probably 70-80% with consensus person to person. If any one of us disagrees with RT/Metacritic/IMDB more than 20-30% of the time I'd love a list of examples. ...

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

*deep breath* rotten tomatoes, metacritic and imdb are all data. like any data set, you can question its validity, reliability, and how useful it is depends how you choose to interpret and apply it (IE, normies hate "prestige horror" so they bomb the ratings usually). But in this case, they are *all...

Re: Set Photos/Videos (Potential Spoilers)

I'm willing to bet Nolan and the Mayor have had extremely civil discussions, and the news sources are simply exaggerating. Probably. I'd also be willing to bet part of it is that they were told the city was theirs to do whatever with, then they started getting pushback afterwards since whoever spok...
