tdkr rogues Production Update #8: Gotham Goes Rogue

The Dark Knight Rises has received a lot of attention since it began filming in Pittsburgh less than two weeks ago. We’ve seen dozens of photos and videos of Tom Hardy as Bane on set. We just recently got our first look at Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle. Cameras have caught the Tumbler and the Bat-Pod driving on the streets Pittsburgh. Pictures of the fake snow on set have reminded much of America (suffering from heatwaves) of cooler weather. But now attention is turning towards the fake football game being filmed at Heinz field this weekend. The Gotham Rogues will be facing off against the Rapid City Monuments in what is said to be one of the key moments of filming in Pittsburgh.

With the big day imminent, stuff is starting to leak online. A photo of the Rogues football uniform has been revealed via Twitter. The team colors should be familiar to Pittsburgh Steelers fans and football fans alike. Black and yellow, black and yellow! Yeah yeah, that joke is old, I know. These team colors not only wink at the Steelers colors, which are prominent inside of Heinz Field as well, but they’re a nice nod to the iconic black and yellow Bat-symbol from the comics and Tim Burton Batman films. Local news station WPXI sent a helicopter over Heinz Field this week and took 8 minutes of footage of what is being done inside the stadium to prep for filming. Team logos are being painted on the field, and that’s not all. It looks like the art departments have been doing a lot other manipulation to the field as well. Some might think it a bit spoilery, so check out the video after the jump.

In December, Warner Bros officially announced that they will, in fact, re-release The Dark Knight to traditional cinemas as well as IMAX theaters in the United States on January 23, 2009. Already the 2nd Highest Grossing ($531 million) domestic film of all time, this move guarantees that it will become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office sales. According to Box Office Mojo, its current worldwide takings stand at $997 million.Insiders speculate the re-release is also an effort to increase its Oscar chances by keeping the film fresh in Academy members minds, since the film was released several months before the traditional ‘Oscar season.’ The Dark Knight has already won several prestigious awards, and has been nominated for many others, including 7 BAFTAS. Oscar nominations will be announced this Thursday, January 22.
