The Dark Knight Rises Prologue Attached to Ghost Protocol?

tdkr imax prologue The Dark Knight Rises Prologue Attached to Ghost Protocol?

On Monday, a user posted a rumor on our forums claiming that a prologue for The Dark Knight Rises will be attached to IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol when it opens on December 16th. Claiming he heard it from ‘someone’ and that he wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be kept ‘secret’ or not, his rumor post wasn’t taken very seriously by many of the forum members. Well just today, /Film posted an exclusive article saying an exhibitor told them that Warner Bros. plans to attach a six-minute prologue to Brad Bird‘s Mission: Impossible film, which, like The Dark Knight Rises, contains select scenes shot on IMAX cameras.

In 2007, a six-minute prologue to The Dark Knight was attached to I Am Legend. I was lucky enough to catch one of those screenings of the prologue, and to this day it remains one of my favorite experiences in a movie theater ever. It forever converted me to fan of IMAX. And now it appears that both Warner Bros. and Paramount are looking to capture more audience goers. Pairing the two films together could be beneficial to both studios. Paramount’s Ghost Protocol stands to be the biggest IMAX release of the season and shares a similar demographic to The Dark Knight Rises. While Warner Bros’ batman film is poised to be the biggest film of 2012 — if not the decade. If our forum user and the /Film source are correct, this is easily some of the most exciting news in quite a while. What do you think? Will you go to see Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in IMAX this Decemeber to catch a six-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises?

So There Might Be Another Batman… It’s Kinda Confusing…

moar batman So There Might Be Another Batman... Its Kinda Confusing...

I won’t pretend to be thrilled about the news that has been making its way around the internet today. I’m not even sure I understand it. Let me break it down to the best of my ability. Jeff Robinov (President of Warner Bros.) recently gave an interview to Hero Complex about WB’s long-term strategy for their DC Comics properties. The interview included Mr. Robinov saying that a Justice League movie is in the works… as is another Batman movie after The Dark Knight Rises… sorta. The article mentions that Batman will be an important property that will continue after Christopher Nolan finishes his bit with it next year. But then Mr. Robinov states that Chris and Emma will stay on as producers. Yea… I don’t know what’s going on either.

Robinov knows that the most bankable part of his superhero empire has been Nolan and his Gotham City films –  the studio has yet to deliver a 21st century superhero blockbuster hit without Nolan in the director’s seat. Batman will continue to be a centerpiece property beyond next year’s The Dark Knight Rises and Nolan’s departure from the franchise. “We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman…Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.”
- Hero Complex

It sounds to me like Warner Bros. has a gun to Nolan’s head, forcing him to help out their otherwise rocky superhero franchises. A reinvention of Batman sounds fairly straight forward to me; a reboot… of sorts. It’s unlikely that the movie will have any direct connections to Nolan’s three installments, but I suppose anything is possible. Whatever it ends up being, referring to it as Batman 4 seems ludicrous. Perhaps Chris and Emma will advise the re-imagining. Perhaps Robinov wants Chris to convince Christian Bale to stay on. My hope is that whatever is done with any future Batman films is done by not trying to mimic Christopher Nolan’s work. Sorry for all of the ellipses.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Play Alberto Falcone?

jgl falcone Joseph Gordon Levitt To Play Alberto Falcone?

UPDATE (3.21.11): Dave Karger is reporting via Entertainment Weekly that although Joseph Gordon-Levitt will appear in The Dark Knight Rises, he wont be playing the role of Alberto Falcone — as we reported below. Time to begin to speculating… again?

Jeff Sneider over at Variety broke a story Friday evening claiming Joseph Gordon-Levitt had finally been locked to star in The Dark Knight Rises. This was an unofficial confirmation of an article from February by Deadline saying the young actor had been in talks for a mystery role. Now Variety has revealed that (after weeks of quiet negations) Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone. Jeff says this comes from ‘inside sources’ and that he ran this by Warner Bros. before breaking the story, so make what you will of what that means. Speculation had run amok on the internet for weeks about who actor would play, and some people seemingly guessed right. Falcone is the son of Mafia boss Carmine Falcone, who was wonderfully portrayed by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins. He is also known as The Holiday Killer, a villain with a complex story in the comics.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will join fellow Inception cast mates Tom Hardy and Michael Caine, along with Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and others for The Dark Knight Rises in theaters on July 20, 2012.

Marion Cotillard Cast in The Dark Knight Rises?

Posted on Sunday, February 13th, 2011 at 7:59 pm by George

marion tdkr Marion Cotillard Cast in The Dark Knight Rises?

UPDATE: THR is reporting that a representative for the actress says Cotillard’s involvement in The Dark Knight Rises is currently “in discussions” and that nothing has been “confirmed” yet. Cotillard is reportedly concerned about scheduling, which would have her in London by mid-June, then L.A. and Pittsburgh for the entire summer, and New York in mid-November to wrap. Nolan has been reading with several other actresses for the part, including Kate Winslet and Rachel Weisz.

The Dark Knight Rises is shaping up to be something of an Inception reunion. With Tom Hardy as Bane and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in talks for a role, one of France’s largest newspapers, Le Figaro, is now reporting that Marion Cotillard will be joining the cast as the second female lead. Cotillard’s recent pregnancy seemingly put her out of contention, but a rough Google translation of the article (courtesy of Batman News) explains that The Dark Knight Rises will be her only project this year:

Marion Cotillard in “Batman 3″? The actress, who is expecting a child in the spring with Guillaume Canet, will be scarce this year. She’ll do a single film and her choice fell on Batman 3. This blockbuster produced by Warner Bros.. enables her to work with the director Christopher Nolan, with whom she had turned very successful sci-fi Inception. Marion Cotillard will join the filming this summer in Los Angeles. She will share the bill with Anne Hathaway.
- Le Figaro

Nolan has been searching for two female leads for his Batman finale to play a love interest and a villain. Cotillard will presumably play the love interest if we are to assume that Hathaway’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman will be the villain. But what if Selina Kyle is the love interest? Could Cotillard be Talia al Ghul? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Nolan Looking At Resurrecting His Howard Hughes Biopic?

Posted on Friday, February 11th, 2011 at 6:58 pm by TeddyBlass

hughes Nolan Looking At Resurrecting His Howard Hughes Biopic?

The rumor mills are churning today as Vulture just published an article claiming that Christopher Nolan is looking to resurrect his Howard Hughes biopic. Nearly a decade ago Nolan was trying to put together a biopic about the eccentric producer with actor Jim Carrey playing the lead. Nolan and Carrey met shortly after Nolan had completed Memento, and the two worked together for some time developing the project. In 2003 Christopher Nolan had completed his script… just as director Martin Scorsese got the green light to make his Howard Hughes film — The Aviator — starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Nolan was concerned about moving forward with his film and eventually went on to make Batman Begins instead. In a 2006 interview with In Focus, Nolan said his script was “the best thing” he’s written. He added, “Hopefully it’ll have its day. Patience is definitely part of this business.”

Now some 8 years after the project was shelved, Vulture is reporting that they have sources telling them that Nolan wants to shoot his Hughes movie late in 2012, then release it in 2014. This would put a 10 year wedge between the hypothetical Nolan film and Scorsese’s. Apparently Nolan thinks that time span is enough to not elicit an immediate comparison of the two films. I don’t know. I’m personally taking this news with a big grain of salt. Although it is clear from the quotations above that Nolan seems to want to return to the project, I feel like it’s a bit early to know what his intentions are considering we’re a couple months left before shooting on The Dark Knight Rises is even set to begin. You can decided for yourself and check out the full write up over at Vulture. Thanks to Dragon_316ca in the forums for the tip!
