Batman 3 News Rumors

FirstShowing.net is reporting they have a “reliable inside source” with a studio casting grid that has The Riddler listed as the villian for Batman 3. With this year’s San Diego Comic Con starting up this week, many have been suspecting some sort of announcement regarding the much anticipated follow-up to 2008′s The Dark Knight. Rumors surrounding this project have been absolutely bonkers in the past, but FirstShowing is saying “this news should be considered confirmation that The Riddler is the villain” in Batman 3. They’re also saying that the actor currently listed on that same casting grid is none other than Inception‘s Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He is listed as “interested” next to The Riddler, despite the age listed for the mysterious villian being 35-45. Joe is only 29 by the way. So how accurate could this all be? They want to keep the JGL part listed a rumor, but The Riddler part as confirmed.

So here’s an opportunity to take your mind off of Inception for a couple minutes – MTV SplashPage is reporting that Chris Columbus (the man behind the first two Harry Potter films) is rumored to have been offered the job to direct the next Superman movie. The screenplay, as you know, is being written by Batman Begins scribe David S. Goyer and is rumored to be titled Man of Steel. Christopher Nolan decided to oversee the project in a producer-like role after Goyer told the Dark Knight director ‘I have this thought about how you would approach Superman’ sometime earlier this year.
Since then, David S. Goyer himself and Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonathan have both been rumored to be under consideration to direct the new Superman. But MTV is reporting that Columbus is said to be “the right fit” for the superhero film according to insiders at Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Could they be this far in the process of setting up the film?
More recently, Christopher Nolan told MTV News that his current focus is on fine tuning the right story for Superman rather than finding the right actor.
“It’s all about figuring out exactly the tone and meaning of the story and how you’re going to approach it,” said Nolan. “Casting comes later, and all of those considerations come later.”
Read the full article over at MTV SplashPage to get the full scoop. What do you think of Chris Columbus directing Man of Steel? Is he the right fit?
UPDATE (July 13, 2010): It looks like this rumor has been busted. Chris Columbus will not be directing Man of Steel.

With numerous (and fairly unbelievable)Â The Man of Steel rumors flying around over the past week, it seemed unlikely that they could possibly come together to form a truth. And although this may just be another interesting rumor to be considered and tossed out in another week, IESB may have hit on something that rings truer and potentially makes some sense of what has been said recently about the Nolans and The Man of Steel.
Now to get a few things straight, the rumors put Christopher Nolan as the ‘Godfather’ figure to the project (presumably due to his very successful work rebooting Batman) with Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer writing the screenplay. But, according to IESB, word is that Chris Nolan’s involvement is more to help out his brother Jonathan than, say, just to help out Warner Bros. get another franchise off the ground. The rumblings go further to mention that the reason Chris would want to be in this type of role is that The Man of Steel will be Jonathan Nolan’s directorial debut.
On the one hand it seems a little crazy that Warner Bros. would let Jonathan Nolan take on a $200-million Superman film for his first outing as director. But with Chris’ support and the respect Warner Bros. has for the Nolan team, it does feel in the realm of possibility. IESB’s rumor mill continues on to put Christopher Nolan as the director of the future Justice League movie. Although intriguing, I think that’s one that just needs to stay completely in the rumor mill for now.

Ahh yes, it’s that time again. Time for the Batman 3 rumors. And no, this isn’t the rumor to end all rumors like we were hoping for. This rumor (soon to be trumor?) comes from Nikki Finke, the respected Hollywood journalist from Deadline.com. In an article about why Goyer is leaving the TV show he helped create (FlashForward), Nikke sites Batman 3 as one of the reasons:
“Of course, Goyer’s feature career is really heating up, since he co-wrote Batman Begins, and penned the story for The Dark Knight, and is now writing the third Batman installment with Chris Nolan’s brother Jonah. ‘As my feature projects have started ramping up again, I felt I was being pulled in too many directions,’ Goyer said in a statement.”
Perhaps this is something Nikki Finke has been told in confidence, or it’s very possible she could just be speculating. Hopefully we will have more confirmation on the validly of this statement soon. And considering this story is going to be all over the internet this week, I suspect we might. Read the full article over at Deadline.com.

Rumor has it that the Batman 3 rumors will finally come to an end early next year. (Disregard the irony.) At least, that’s the word from a “solid” and “longtime” source of Batman-On-Film. Here are the details.
There’s some scuttlebutt that in early 2010, Warner Bros. and Chris Nolan will finalize the plan for BATMAN 3, according to a solid and longtime BOF source. Whether there will be an announcement or not remains to be seen.
Our guy told BOF that in his opinion, the longer we don’t here a Nolan/B3 announcement in 2010, the less likely it is that the director will return. (I don’t know if I necessarily agree with that since I’m of the belief that Chris has already signed on.)
We also have to consider that Christopher Nolan‘s Inception is wrapping production in about two weeks. Is Warner Bros. going to announce a third Batman film before, during, or after the (hopefully awesome) marketing campaign for Inception?
Regardless, our source also confirmed the obvious — there’s going to be a BATMAN 3 with or without Nolan. And although they’re operating under the assumption that he will return, they do have their ducks in a row — just in case.
Remember this is only a rumor. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope that this torture will end soon.

In a Deadline.com article describing Warner Bros’ Jeff Robinov restructuring of DC Comics, some interesting details were mentioned concerning Christopher Nolan‘s filming  schedule:
Of Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Justice League, only Batman has an ongoing live action franchise. And now that director Chris Nolan is working on back-to-back pics, who knows when the threequel will get a start date.
The article indicates that Nolan will begin directing another film soon after the completion of Inception in December. What’s even more intriguing is the notion that it is not Batman related. Â If this is true, I suspect it’ll be a smaller project that will only take two or three months to shoot, much like Nolan did with The Prestige from January to April in 2006. Â This potential second film may even be included in the massive $200 million budget rumored for Inception.
