memento 10yr Memento Returns To Theaters For 10th Anniversary

Christopher Nolan’s classic thriller Memento will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with one night only screenings of the film on February 17th across North America. Newmarket Films is releasing the film to select digital cinemas via Cinedigm. The release is a Christopher Nolan-approved, high definition digital print. These screenings will also feature Q&A footage, recorded last week in Los Angeles, of writer and director Christopher Nolan speaking with acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. This a great chance for younger fans to see the film that ignited Nolan’s career on the big screen, as well as a opportunity for older fans to revisit the film in theaters. A full list of participating theaters is provided below in the full story.

Memento will also be released as a 10th Anniversary Special Edition Blu-ray on February 22nd. The Blu-ray comes packed with special features including a brand new featurette with the director discussing the legacy of the film, plus the director’s script, audio commentary with Christopher Nolan, the original short story, Anatomy of a Scene and more! As a prize for our readers we will be giving away one copy of the Blu-ray courtesy of Cinedigm. To enter the giveaway, click the following link to tweet the giveaway message using your twitter account. Deadline for your tweet entry is 11:59pm EST on February 17th. Interviews: Guy Pearce on Nolan, Chris Nolan on Inception

guy and chris2 Interviews: Guy Pearce on Nolan, Chris Nolan on Inception

We’re getting into the thick of awards season, folks. That means the buzz around the best films of the year is building and those involved with the films get hounded by the press. Speaking with Deadline and Movieline, Christopher Nolan and Guy Pearce, respectively, talked about the films they worked on this year that are getting all the buzz. For Christopher Nolan that’s Inception. He gave a lengthy and rousing interview to Mike Fleming of Deadline just the other day. They talked about the 10-year scripting process Inception underwent, making it in the studio system, as well as some of the technological approaches taken with the film, and more. One of the moments of the interview I found most interesting was when Chris talks about keeping the audience in mind when working on such a potentially confusing film. He clearly treats his audience with great respect, and it’s really refreshing to hear.

The most stressful and difficult part of steering a large movie like Inception is that you are taking on the responsibility of communicating with a very wide audience. You can’t ever hide behind the notion of, ‘Okay, they just don’t get it,’ or, ‘Certain people just don’t get it.’ You have to be mindful of the size of your audience, and you have to communicate in a way that lets them in. That can be difficult when you’re trying to do something more challenging. There really is a delicate balance between presenting people with elements that are unfamiliar, but still giving them an entertaining experience for their willingness to come on that ride with you and accept a certain degree of confusion. That’s the most difficult thing, but it’s also a challenge I’ve very much enjoyed over the last few films.
- Christopher Nolan

Another favorite moment of the interview of mine is when Chris discusses working on such a secretive yet complex project with actors, and being considerate of their needs.

Memento 10th Anniversary Blu-Ray Available for Pre-Order

memento 10year Memento 10th Anniversary Blu Ray Available for Pre Order

Ten years after it confounded audiences and inspired debate, Memento will receive a 10th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray on February 22, 2011 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Originally released on Blu-ray by Sony in 2006, the distribution rights for Memento were secured by Lionsgate earlier this year following their acquisition of Newmarket Films. Since Sony’s Memento Blu-ray only utilized a 25GB disc and an inferior MPEG-2 codec, the all-new high definition transfer (approved by Christopher Nolan) for this Lionsgate release is quite exciting. Special features on the disc remain nearly identical to the previous Blu-ray release and include an audio commentary with Christopher Nolan, director’s script, the original short story Memento, and “Anatomy of a Scene.” The new addition will be a featurette with Christopher Nolan discussing the legacy of the film.

Memento’s 10th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray is now available for pre-order on Amazon for only $13.99.
