FirstShowing.net is reporting they have a “reliable inside source” with a studio casting grid that has The Riddler listed as the villian for Batman 3. With this year’s San Diego Comic Con starting up this week, many have been suspecting some sort of announcement regarding the much anticipated follow-up to 2008′s The Dark Knight. Rumors surrounding this project have been absolutely bonkers in the past, but FirstShowing is saying “this news should be considered confirmation that The Riddler is the villain” in Batman 3. They’re also saying that the actor currently listed on that same casting grid is none other than Inception‘s Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He is listed as “interested” next to The Riddler, despite the age listed for the mysterious villian being 35-45. Joe is only 29 by the way. So how accurate could this all be? They want to keep the JGL part listed a rumor, but The Riddler part as confirmed.

jokeraha 300x229 Batman 3 Officially Set For 2012

Nearly two years after the release of The Dark Knight, Warner Bros. announced today that the third Batman film will debut in theaters and IMAX July 20, 2012. Although no details regarding the film have been released, it’s safe to assume Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman will be reprising their respective roles and that it will be the final Batman film by Nolan.

For comparison, The Dark Knight was officially announced on July 31, 2006. The title and Heath Ledger as the Joker were included with that announcement. Details for the next film are expected to release in the coming months, with a title and a villain hopefully by the end of July.

Batman 3 and Superman Part of WB/IMAX Deal

Posted on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 at 1:13 pm by TeddyBlass

Warner Bros. and IMAXWarner Bros. Pictures recently signed a partnership deal with IMAX Corporation to release 20 films over the next 4 years. The two companies have had many successful collaborations in the past, with both IMAX Experience and IMAX 3D Experience films making big bucks at the box-office.

“Our track record with IMAX has been incredible, and incorporating 3D into this collaborative effort will serve as the ultimate experience for our audiences,” said Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. “We are extraordinarily proud of our forthcoming slate and eager to offer these films to audiences in the most premium of movie-going experiences.”

Mentioned among the 20 films are the next Superman and (the first official acknowledgment of) Batman 3. Since the deal is for films planned for release before the end of 2013, it’s probably pretty safe to assume we can expect to see both of the superheros on the silver screen before then. You can check out the full details of the deal at GlobalNewsWire.

Nolan Clarifies His Superman and Batman Plans

Posted on Wednesday, March 10th, 2010 at 12:51 pm by AlexHaas

the team up logoThe LA Times recently talked to Christopher Nolan as part of their ongoing Hero Complex series, where he took time to explain and clarify just exactly what is going on with The Man of Steel and Batman 3. The rumors that Batman Begins writer, David S. Goyer, is developing a Superman screenplay are true and it seems Goyer brought it up to Chris when things were coming to an impasse on the next Batman project.

“He basically told me, ‘I have this thought about how you would approach Superman. I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I’ve never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get Emma and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way.”

Christopher Nolan also discusses how the Superman films have been approached in a lot of different ways. He says this emphasizing the idea that Batman exists in a world where he is the only superhero. Nolan says that his approach on a Superman film would be very similar: “I only know the way that has worked for us that’s what I know how to do. Each serves to the internal logic of the story. They have nothing to do with each other.”

With all this talk about superhero films, Christopher Nolan continues on to explain the current progress of the Batman trilogy. Nolan explains that his brother, Jonathan Nolan, is “now doing the hard work,” writing the script which is based on David Goyer’s story ideas. “My brother is writing a script for me and we’ll wait to see how it turns out…he’s struggling to put it together into the epic story that you want it to be.”

“Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story. We have a great ensemble, that’s one of the attractions of doing another film, since we’ve been having a great time for years.

I’m very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we’ve done with the characters. My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these thing don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we’re telling. And it hearkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories. That’s what we do.”

Christopher Nolan Helping Reboot Superman Franchise

>>Update 2.20.10<<: According to DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson, this is nothing more than a rumor. Read more over at MTV.com.

According to Nikki Finke (who we all got familiar with yesterday) and her pal Mike Flemming, Warner Bros is looking to reboot it’s Superman franchise soon, and they turned to Christopher Nolan to oversee development. Nikki’s insiders say Nolan “has been asked to play a ‘godfather’ role and ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground” after the last film failed nearly 4 years ago. Of course, Superman isn’t the only superhero film Chris will be working on, apparently he has an idea for Batman 3. Nikki confirms her story yesterday on Deadline.com saying David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan are currently working on the script.

Deadline.com‘s insider says “It would definitely not be a followup to Superman Returns,”  and Christopher Nolan isn’t likely to direct. Bryan Singer isn’t out of the picture yet, either is Superman himself, Brandon Routh. The history of the Superman film franchise is a long and complicated one. The series has had it’s ups and downs, and is quite familiar with long stages of development that are often nothing but dead ends. Warner Bros is looking to clean up and bring focus to the comic book’s film franchise, and they’re hoping Christopher Nolan can do it. Hell, he did it exceedingly well for Batman.

To understand the history of it all, head over to Deadline.com to read Nikki and Mike’s excellent article explaining it all.

David S. Goyer and Jonah Nolan Writing Batman 3?

Posted on Monday, February 8th, 2010 at 1:09 pm by TeddyBlass

David S. GoyerAhh yes, it’s that time again. Time for the Batman 3 rumors. And no, this isn’t the rumor to end all rumors like we were hoping for. This rumor (soon to be trumor?) comes from Nikki Finke, the respected Hollywood journalist from Deadline.com. In an article about why Goyer is leaving the TV show he helped create (FlashForward), Nikke sites Batman 3 as one of the reasons:

“Of course, Goyer’s feature career is really heating up, since he co-wrote Batman Begins, and penned the story for The Dark Knight, and is now writing the third Batman installment with Chris Nolan’s brother Jonah. ‘As my feature projects have started ramping up again, I felt I was being pulled in too many directions,’ Goyer said in a statement.”

Perhaps this is something Nikki Finke has been told in confidence, or it’s very possible she could just be speculating. Hopefully we will have more confirmation on the validly of this statement soon. And considering this story is going to be all over the internet this week, I suspect we might. Read the full article over at Deadline.com.
