Production on Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk has officially started in France this week. For the last week or two, what appeared to be either costume or camera tests have been taking place. Harry Styles has been spotted on location, as well as Cillian Murphy, Christopher Nolan and Mark Rylance. Coinciding with the start of filming, Warner Bros. has also released the first official synopsis for the film.
“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
The film is working under the bogus title Bodega Bay, which happens to be the fictitious seaside town where Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds takes place. As previously reported, Nolan will be filming on a combination of IMAX 15/70 and traditional 65mm film. Filming will take place Holland, the United Kingdom and Los Angeles in addition to France.
While Warner Bros. has not issued any official pictures, however if you’ve been browsing our forums lately you’ve likely seen all of the photos from the recent camera/costume tests. Check a few of ’em out:
