interstellar Christopher Nolan In Talks To Direct Interstellar

According to an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher Nolan is interested in directing the upcoming sci-fi film Interstellar, a project initially written by his brother, and once the interest of Steven Spielberg. The story involves a group of explorers who travel through a wormhole, and subsequently through time and alternate dimensions. THR claims that the deal has been brewing for months and is described as very complex. This is a description that makes sense to us, as this project was initially set up at Paramount Pictures, but Nolan and his production company are currently set up with their long-time partner Warner Bros. Pictures. The result being that both studios will be involved.

Jonathan Nolan’s script is based on scientific theories developed by Kip Thorne; a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech. Jonathan has also co-written the scripts from many of Christopher’s previous projects, including 2 of the Batman films, as well as The Prestige and Memento. It is unclear if Spielberg will remain involved with the project, especially after the news earlier today about his next film being delayed indefinitely. Stick tuned for more news as this project develops.

When I read “very complex” my eyes widened greatly. Please Nolan. Another mind twisting movie that requires multiple viewings to fully comprehend.

Wonder who will DP as master Pfister is busy atm. Hopefully he will return. I returned to film photography becuase of his work (film is still king!)

  • BruceNolan

Wow this is awesome! Is the deal described as “complex” or is the movie described as “complex”? Probably both. Cannot wait!!!!

  • K

If this happens, this film could (and should) all be shot in the IMAX format.

I was sad to hear that Robopocalypse has been postponed indefinitely, but this news far overshadows that.

Love to see Spielberg produce this with Nolan. He’s already produced stuff with Ron Howard, Martin Scorsecse, Robert Zemeckis, Clint Eastwood, Peter Jackson, etc.

there is another rumor that nolan may mix another script treatment with this script that he been working on, which sounds pretty cool with me, I luv the idea of nolan going full on sci-fi, he did it a wee bit in inception and makes me wonder if steven spielberg is going to produce this one, since he was going direct it before he was going to do another film and now thats one delayed as well, and wonder if he may try a nice banch of actors or maybe some old faces mixed with some new,luv to see nolan work with johnny depp at some point and maybe emma stone and emma watson, but maybe thats just me.

It will most likely happen, since Nolan takes on one project at a time.

Daniel, I think that you will get your wish.

Another factor that may make these deal complex is the issues that Mr Nolan had with his former talent agency. But perhaps this movie will be unaffected since he has already left the agency.

    INsomnia, INception, INterstellar!

Nolan —————-> We have a problem. And this Problem is french ! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xlwijg_interstellar-2_creation#.UPCmkm92R8E

Everyone always describes a new Nolan film as being complex, from producers and cast to critics and fans, but the truth is the only genuinely “complex” film he made was memento. Don’t get me wrong I love all of his films and think they deal with smart themes and topics but they have never really been “complex” . That word is like the new “epic” over and wrongfully used at every turn…calm down.

    I miss BATMAN!

I just learned that interstellar travel in an advanced ship travelling back and forth one time to the center of the galaxy could take as little as 40 years in a very advanced ship traveling 85% of light speed. The only issue is that it is only 40 years on the space ship, while Earth time the trip would take 60,000 years (due to the speed of the ship slowing down time for its passengers). I hope Nolan goes into something like this, I could only imagine the psychological effects of returning to the Earth 60,000 years later would have on a person.

Hopefully this is the new 2001: space odyssey. I want to be blown away and I will be, Nolan is the best in the game right now.

  • Danny

I love complex movies. I love Nolan’s movies. I love SF. Do you think there is a chance I love Interstellar? ;)
