It is really much harder to talk about Inception from the angle of philosophy, even more difficult to understand it than the original movie.

Don’t forget that there is another book, which came out a little earlier, with almost the same title: Inception and Philosophy: Ideas to die for (Chicago: Open Court). Same concept, lots of interesting philosophical articles

Teddy, thanks for posting your “positive” review. As you and Mike rightly point out: the book is a fantastic, complex and insightful read.

In reply to Cilogy: Having read the book, I can vouch for Teddy and Mike’s positive review of it. It wasn’t frantically thrown together to get it on the shelves and make money. From reading it, you can gain a sense for how carefully well-thought-out and honed it is: from ”The Editor’s Totem, all 22 chapters, to the fun 20 page appendix at the end called “The Safe Full of Secrets” which provides a list of hidden things you may have missed in the film – an excellent comprehensive list of Inception trivia that any fan of the film needs to have on their desk.

And from what I can gather, the book was carefully worked on for close to a year (not rushed at all). And keep in mind that all of the essays in the “Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series” undergo a careful and rigourous “editing” process (that takes a long time) involving several edited drafts before being submitted to the publisher for their review. But, as you say, you’ll have to judge for yourself.

Ted, thanks for this review, I was looking forward to any insight into this book from a NolanFans member. From what I’ve heard, it’s kind of thrown together, like they just did it to get it on the shelves and sell it. If that’s the case, then I think they should have waited a bit longer.

However, I will be picking this up soon and judging for myself.
