The Dark Knight Rises Prologue Attached to Ghost Protocol?

tdkr imax prologue The Dark Knight Rises Prologue Attached to Ghost Protocol?

On Monday, a user posted a rumor on our forums claiming that a prologue for The Dark Knight Rises will be attached to IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol when it opens on December 16th. Claiming he heard it from ‘someone’ and that he wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be kept ‘secret’ or not, his rumor post wasn’t taken very seriously by many of the forum members. Well just today, /Film posted an exclusive article saying an exhibitor told them that Warner Bros. plans to attach a six-minute prologue to Brad Bird‘s Mission: Impossible film, which, like The Dark Knight Rises, contains select scenes shot on IMAX cameras.

In 2007, a six-minute prologue to The Dark Knight was attached to I Am Legend. I was lucky enough to catch one of those screenings of the prologue, and to this day it remains one of my favorite experiences in a movie theater ever. It forever converted me to fan of IMAX. And now it appears that both Warner Bros. and Paramount are looking to capture more audience goers. Pairing the two films together could be beneficial to both studios. Paramount’s Ghost Protocol stands to be the biggest IMAX release of the season and shares a similar demographic to The Dark Knight Rises. While Warner Bros’ batman film is poised to be the biggest film of 2012 — if not the decade. If our forum user and the /Film source are correct, this is easily some of the most exciting news in quite a while. What do you think? Will you go to see Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in IMAX this Decemeber to catch a six-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises?

Last time I didn’t see the prologue for Dark Knight because I didn’t want to shorten the amount of new footage I’d get to watch on opening night. But this time I’m seriously considering it…..!! I’m torn.

Do it, Michael. It was an amazing experience. Of course, I traded off watching the trailers for catching the prologue — which is a difficult thing to do.

I would rather wait for the whole film myself anyway, don’t understand why WB do this as people are gonna watch it anyway.
Only assuption as to why they do it is because the industry wants IMAX to grow more. I would rather not have some scenes shot in Imax (If they do it then it should the whole film which is still hard to do as they are still big and noisy) as the ratio changes in and out on the Blu-Ray version of the film.

This is an epic move by Warner Bros. It’s the perfect publicity, and it’ll boost the gross for MI:4, too. I hope it’s true, it’ll be amazing if it is. I mean, eight fucking minutes!

    JIZZED.

Movie goers are so interesting. Some people won’t be willing to watch eight minutes from the beginning of the film, but they’ll watch 3 or 4 two-minute trailers that will certainly show parts from the last act. That’s odd to me.

I’m positive that this prologue will blow our minds!

    Can’t wait!!!

Yeah, I agree. TV spots often ruin a movie completely, showing off important plot points or whatever. Eight minutes of footage, I’m assuming, from the beginning of the movie is a better alternative. It won’t give anything away massively, and it’s a nice filler until July.

Yeah, just think of how little the 6-minute bank robbery prologue gives
away about The Dark Knight? Nothing really. The prologue experience in
theaters was 6-minutes of pure heart pounding excitement. I have no
reason to believe, given that it’s true, that this prologue would be any
    different.

  • Peteagassi

Slashfilm says the prologue is 8 minutes, NOT 6. Please correct that in your article, TeddyBlass. Thanks.

  • http://www.nolanfans.com TeddyBlass

Sorry Pete, maybe you should read their article again. Plus our source said 6.

Story got updated, pete. Look again.

Does it always have to be the opening sequence? I gotta stay away from those who would go to see it (for like 6 Months!) to not know the scene that will be shown. Or just hope this applies to all the countries.

  • Peteagassi

THIS IS ALL PART OF THE EXPERIENCE, BABY!!!! CANNOT WAIT!!!!

  • nicocamoglio

Exactly. And for God’s sake, a simple plot synopsis offers more spoilers than the prologue for TDK!

Is this ONLY for the IMAX prints? Because there isn’t an IMAX cinema in my town, but MI:4 is coming here.

  • Marie

i’d rather wait to see the film in it’s final product. it’s not worth it to me to watch a film that i’m not interested in seeing to begin with, just to see the opening of a film i’m patiently trying to see until it’s official releasing. money is scarce and i haven’t been to the movie theaters lately since there’s little that i’ve wanted to see. so, i’ll pass & experience the dkr in its entirety when it releases july 2012.

Is OMNIMAX considered Real IMAX? My local IMAX theater is an OMNIMAX theater, but I can’t figure out if it’s Real IMAX or the LEIMAX thing. Does anyone know the answer to this?
