TDKR Catwoman First Look at Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman

Warner Bros. has released the first official photo of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. Trading cat ears for high tech goggles and a bat-pod, Nolan’s Catwoman appears to be an incarnation of the character unlike anything we’ve seen before. She fits the more practical, less theatrical approach of Nolan’s previous Batman characters, but this also raises the question of whether or not Selina Kyle will actually have the name Catwoman in the film – the photo simply bears the title Selina Kyle, as have the official press releases. How is Catwoman having cat ears stupid, but Batman having bat ears, a cape, and throwing stars in the shape of bats not? I know that Nolan wants to keep everything based in reality, as do the fans, but having Catwoman dress as a cat is not a big stretch. This could very well be a prototype suit she wears as a burglar, and later out of spite for Batman she decides to mock him by making a Catwoman outfit. It wouldn’t be stupid or unrealistic. If the Joker can have scars and clown make up, Catwoman can have cat ears. Hell, Bane wears a mask which I’m sure has a reason. It seems straight forward now, but when we find out WHY he wears a mask it will be a stretch I’m sure. Which is perfectly fine. Keep in mind that the Nolan realm of Batman has never been based purely in reality, it’s been based in plausability. So far only the gadgets have been almost pure reality. They all have some sort of real background. The characters themselves…not so much. And thank goodness for that. If Batman were truly based in reality he’d just be a guy who bitched about the corruption of Gotham on the internet while eating Cheetos.

I’m glad they have thought Catwoman out like they did with The Joker. Just like the war paint idea the NV goggles just work and it’s still Catwoman. Looks like she is gonna be an ally for Batman as well in this. Can’t wait to see what happens with her, Bruce and “Miranda” in this film.

This is not in any way bad, I’m just not blown away by these reveals like I was for TDK. That’s my problem, though. It’s a hard act to follow.

I really hope Nolan has a lot more up his sleeve.

You seem to forget what happened in batman begins, the costume was all for theatrics which was something Bruce learned from the league of shadows. Even ra’s was surprised at how far Bruce took the theatricality idea.We shouldn’t expect everyone to have the same idea Bruce had in creating the batman suit so I’m just fine with Selina not having cat ears. Beside batman, who else in the last two movies had something as outrageous as a batman costume?

sooo.. the league of shadows and Bruce have cornered the market on theatricality? Here’s some plausibility: Catwoman developing her persona as a response to the presence of the Batman. Batman has inspired the citizens of Gotham.. is it really a stretch to think that someone would follow his Modus Operandi? she’s a CAT burglar… so she made a persona inspired by what she does and the presence of Batman in Gotham city.. particularly if he “doesn’t exist anymore”. I’m not saying that’s the case, but I’m just illustrating that there are any number of plausible ways for her to create the ‘Catwoman’ moniker… and that could mean by being a bit of a copycat (no pun intended). I don’t see that being a problem for Nolan at all.

Is that a batpod? If it really is, then it means Catwoman is teamed up with Batman. If Nolan still keep her as Selina Kyle, there are good chances she will know Batman’s secret identity.

No they don’t have the corner in theatricality and you do have a point there are plausible ways to get the ears and she might get them. I didn’t say it wasn’t possible, just that we have yet to see some one as crazy as Bruce to dress up, but like you said she probably is inspired by what he does. Still, unless nolan has a way to pull of the catsuit without making it crappy then by all means he should go for it. I just don’t understand the lack of faith in what he’s doing? (Maybe I should have written that instead :-/ )

trying to compare to dk isn’t going to work, which is always the issue for a 3rd following. many people are going to ask, how can dk be topped? nolan is going to create a filling conclusion to his batman series, whether it’s the best or not.

I trust Nolan 100%. We’re just being inundated with images and spy photos and videos…

There’s so long to go, and I feel the movie is being spoiled. Add to that the fairly underwhelming nature of most of what we’re seeing, and I can’t help but compare it to the excitement I had ramping up to TDK.

I don’t expect Nolan to top that, but the comparison is inevitable.

Because there’s a whole history worth of literature and a movie called Batman Begins that digs deep into the disturbed mind of Bruce Wayne and makes you believe that an individual as disturbed and troubled as Bruce Wayne could dress up as a Bat. Bruce Wayne = Wacko. That’s why he gets a pass in wearing the bat costume. Not so much credible for other people. Nobody can be as disturbed as Wayne, except only The Joker.
