The Dark Knight Rises As Magnus Rex

Although official production isn’t set to begin until May, word comes to us from Production Weekly that The Dark Knight Rises will be going under the working titles Magnus Rex and Fox Hills Green. Many of you will remember that Inception went under the working title Oliver’s Arrow; Oliver being the name of one of Christopher’s sons. And I’m sure I don’t have to remind many that The Dark Knight‘s working title was Rory’s First Kiss; Rory also being the name of another of Nolan’s sons. It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that the name Magnus in Magnus Rex is derived from yet another one of the Nolan boys. Magnus Nolan is most notably known for his adorable role as the young James Cobb in Inception.

So why would a movie filming in May have a fake production title out already? And seemingly two of them? Well that could be due to the fact that The Dark Knight Rises is supposedly shooting plates this week in New York City. We know that Wally Pfister met with Christopher Nolan and production designer Nathan Crowley in NYC the other week scouting for locations. According to a source close to Batman-On-Film they are filming “a plate shot in a helicopter over New York City this week. Apparently, Chris Nolan wants to get the city with snow on the ground.” My guess would be that Fox Hills Green is being used for this NYC bit, with Magnus Rex likely being the working title that sticks around for the remainder of the production starting in May.

they probably just have already used those titles for wide shots of the cities, which is kind of Nolan’s trademark. Especially that Wally mentioned they have been visiting cities around the world, these might have been test shots. It’s interesting that the studio without watching the first cut would give him the budget for doing that, I know they’re really believe in Nolan, but I’m sure the script sounds very promising to them, too.

Very exciting news. In terms of pure cinematography, snow is one thing absent from the previous two films and would make for some interesting scenes. Even though it’s white, snow is truly dark in its own right because it is cold and turns the world into black and white. If Nolan wants to shoot NYC right now simply because of snow, there are no limits he and Pfister will push this time around – especially coming off of the visually emotional masterpiece they developed with Inception.

the document just says they can shoot form today to the end of the of the year, it doesnt mean they necessary start shooting. IMO, it’s just a permission that they can shoot within that date

I found this synopsis online. Anyone know if there’s any truth to it?

The story continues with the assassin Deadshot (Floyd Lawton) being broken out of prison by Russian Agents and sent to northern Europe where he is then smuggled into America as he has been hired by a clandestine organization from the Gotham underground; “The Society”. Batman has become more of a “myth” in Gotham as the criminal underworld has dissipated. Gotham is safer with arrests 30% down so The Dark Knight keeps a very low profile. Batman also has a new aerial vehicle, “The Wraith”. A modified military prototype aircraft/drone with a 40 foot wing span. The Batmobile is now equipped with an E.M.P device. Wayne Manor is rebuilt but Wayne Enterprises is struggling with a lawsuit filed by a rival corporation, Daggett industries and Wayne Enterprises are almost brought to the ground, so much so that Lucius Fox feels he must turn against the irresponsible Bruce Wayne to save the company. A new Batcave has been constructed beneath the re-constructed Manor.(Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Hardy has been set to play Bane. / February 10 – December 30 / Scouting locations in New York and Bucharest, Romania. / Plans to return the Cardington Hangers in Bedfordshire, England / July 20, 2012 Release date.)
