After teasing us with the UK Blu-ray / DVD announcement more than five weeks ago, it looks like Warner Bros. has set Tuesday, December 7th, 2010 as the official US release date for the Inception DVD and Blu-ray.

Special features on the Blu-ray will include:

  • EXTRACTION MODEInfiltrate the dreamscape of “Inception” – with this in-movie experience – to learn how Christopher Nolan, Leonardo DiCaprio and the rest of the cast and crew designed and achieved the movies signature moments.
  • DREAMS: CINEMA OF THE SUBCONSCIOUSTaking some of the most fascinating and cutting-edge dream research to-date on lucid dreaming, top scientists make the case that the dream world is not an altered state of consciousness, but a fully functional parallel reality.
  • INCEPTION: THE COBOL JOBNow in full animation and motion, check out this comic prologue to see how Cobb, Arthur, and Nash came to be enlisted by Cobol Engineering and perform an extraction on Saito.
  • 5.1 INCEPTION SOUNDTRACKComposer Hans Zimmer teams up once again with Director Christopher Nolan to create the soundtrack for “Inception”. Enjoy this feature in full 5.1 surround.
  • CONCEPTUAL ART GALLERY
  • PROMOTIONAL ART ARCHIVE
  • INCEPTION TRAILERS
  • INCEPTION TV SPOTS
  • BD-LIVE: PROJECT SOMNACIN: CONFIDENTIAL FILESGet access to the highly secure files that reveal the inception of the dream-share technology.

Continue on to the see the DVD features, and the epic box art.

Special features on the DVD:

  • THE INCEPTION OF INCEPTIONChristopher Nolan shapes his unusual concepts for “Inception.”
  • THE JAPANESE CASTLE: THE DREAM IS COLLAPSINGCreating and destroying the castle set.
  • CONSTRUCTING PARADOXICAL ARCHITECTUREDesigning the staircase to nowhere.
  • THE FREIGHT TRAINConstructing the street-faring freight train.

It’s probably safe to assume that the four DVD featurettes will be included on the Blu-ray disc as well. I’m not sure way WB decided to list them this way. I just can’t see them delivering these featurettes in a non-HD format.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group says that the DVD will be priced at $28.98 and the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack at $35.99. Don’t let that scare you. The prices are already way cheaper than that on Amazon. (Blu-ray, DVD)

On December 7th, Inception will also be available ON DEMAND through Digital Cable, Satellite TV, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 game consoles and it can be downloaded for rental or purchase on iTunes and Amazon Video On Demand. It will be available to rent via kiosks and subscription (meaning Netflix) on January 1, 2011.

Starting November 15th, consumers can receive exclusive, never-before-seen Inception content on their camera enabled mobile devices via Inception Snap Tags that will be placed on various Inception advertising materials. Consumers only have to snap a photo of the Snap Tag with their camera phones and send the photo via MMS to 95871 (for AT&T, Verizon, and Alltel customers) or as an email to inception@snaptag.mobi to get a reward. Different rewards will be offered on a weekly basis until December 7th when the final reward offered will be tied to the Blu-ray Combo Pack.

Pre-order the INCEPTION Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy on Amazon.com
Pre-order the INCEPTION DVD on Amazon.com

As always with the Amazon pre-orders, you’ll get their lowest advertised price between your order and the release.

  • thenextnolan

like eric cartman used to say: tits. is this gonna be only dvd/bluray combo? cause that would suck.

  • thenextnolan

man, this is quite possibly the best day before the 2nd quarter of middle school ever. first, tom hardy is gonna be in batman 3. then, the lizard possibly gonna be the villain in the 2012 spiderman reboot, now inception dvd. hopefully have somewhat better & longer features then the 2-disc dark knight dvd.

  • http://NolanFans.com Ryan Smith

are you kidding 30 bucks for a dvd and 36 for blu ray what a complete ripoff

  • thenextnolan

@ryan smith, i spent 11 $ on 1 $5 dollar ticket to see inception. for inception, its full price & more.

  • Shane

I really hope that there is a limited edition for the USA just like there is for the UK.

  • Chris (movieman1005)

    Wow, finally!

Although I must say the prices are quite expensive. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still worth every penny, but I don’t see many other movies priced this high for their correlating editions.

35 for special blu ray? IM2 is about 10 cheaper for same edition.

  • Rashad

Blu-ray/DVD combo for me! Don’t worry about the price. It will be lowered to around $24.96 in most retail stores like Walmart, Best Buy, etc.

  • Cilogy

    Slow news week is over.

  • Rohan

Ok. I would love to have the Blu-ray and I am getting it even though it’s expensive because I love the film and also it’s worth every penny, but I am freaking upset about not having a special edition like the fans in UK got. It sucks. They better not release a special edition later next year.

  • Cobb

My all-time favorite film tied with Pulp Fiction and The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. Saw it three times in theaters. Buy bluray first day. SO PUMPED!!! And hopefully we’ll get the briefcase edition.

  • Cobb

The pricing is wrong. DVD Active always has weird prices. Should be normal anywhere else.

  • JRM

    !!!!

  • Rashad

Here’s Full Press Release with all the Blu-ray/DVD features listed.
    http://www.collider.com/2010/10/13/inception-blu-ray-cover-art-special-features-december-7/

I also posted this in the Blu-ray/DVD thread.

  • SK

Having some of the soundtrack available in 5.1 is pretty sweet, although it probably won’t be lossless even for the BR which is a big missed opportunity.

  • Chee

    I need a mini-briefcase.

  • bob546

uh, why doesnt it say 5 stars? They couldnt find a 5 star review to put on the cover?

  • britduck

u don’t know Roger Ebert? His best rating is 4 stars. Inception is of course, 4/4.

  • thenextnolan

wheres richard ropert excellent review? he gave it an A+ & CALLED IT “THE BEST MOVIE OF 2010″ & ONE OF THE GREATEST FILMS OF THE 21ST CENTURY,DESERVING OF MULTIPLE OSCAR NOMINATIONS.

  • kit-kat

Does it really matter whose quote is on the cover?! Ebert is one of the most well-known and recognised critics on the planet, I don’t think it’s that surprising that his review was chosen…

Anyway. Looks awesome. I WANT MY DVD. NOW.

  • http://www.nolanfans.com AlexHaas

    Story updated. :)

  • Shane

Still no word on a limited edition case? Damn.

  • JRM

Btw, I’m very disappointed we here in the states won’t be getting the Briefcase version the UK gets. :’(

But I’ll live with the combo pack.

  • Corbin

Im sorry but are the people complaining about the price complete noobs about dvds and blu rays? That is the MSRP. If you plan to get it the week it comes out it will probably be $24.99 or so for the blu ray. Chill out.

And where the hell is our amazing cool briefcase set? This is BS. And unless we have quite a few extra dollars in our pocket, no one is going to import it AND by the US region blu ray. Ugh, entertainment releases have really been bad for me, first LittleBigPlanet delay, then Gran Turismo 5 delay and now just a regular ole blu ray for one of my top 5 favorite films :( ugh.

  • thenextnolan

finally!!!!!!! a dvd/bluray combo that has decent dvd features. hoepfully, their atleast 25-30 mins long.

  • John

    preordered.

  • EMIRC-DNIM

YES! BUT I WANT THE BRIEFCASE VERSION LIKE IN THE U.K.! AGGHHHHH

  • Matt

“like eric cartman used to say: tits. is this gonna be only dvd/bluray combo? cause that would suck.”

Why? It would be the same price even if it didn’t include the DVD. The price is as high as it is because all movies have extremely high MSRPs (or whatever it is called). Gaurantee the blu-ray will be less than $30 and the DVD will be less than $20 at Best Buy on release.

  • thenextnolan

wish there was some sort of ten disc like toy story. where they put some different extras on 5 dvds and same features on 4 disc bluray. wish there was a unrated, extended cut version of inception. i could watch that movie for hours. 2 hours & 28 minutes for me isnt enough.

  • Matt

This is sweet though, Inception isn’t too far away and Batman 3 info is finally coming in

  • thenextnolan

while on topic of inception, theres only 1 more day 2 vote for 2010 spike scream awards!!!

    hurry & vote for inception:

  • JW

Do you have to pre-order it to get all the special features? Or can you just buy the Blu-ray with the features at stores like Best Buy?
    Thanks
    -JW

  • Ariel

Love the DVD covers! My all time favourite movie. Although I say that for most good movies I see I actually mean it this time. I only saw it once and am so excited to see it again! I don’t care how much it is. I’m getting it. And you’ve gotta love that digital copy! That means I can watch the movie anywhere and everwhere I want on my iPod! How COOL is that. I’m still hoping Australia also gets the silver briefcase edition. And of course, the rest of the world. Still don’t understand why the UK gets all the hype of it though. It’s unfair.

  • thenextnolan

@ariel, you & me both. i love other movies but as a 14 year old who understood inception, it has become my star wars,in terms of changing my life.

  • Slask

“Dream of consciousness” should be the research footage Nolan did during production of the movie, that video with scientists interviewd by him??

  • ThePhantomTerror

The DVD special feature sucks!! I want the Blu-Ray but I don’t have PS3 nor Blu-Ray player.

@JW You can wait until it’s in stores like Best Buy to get the same special features. Although, it’s highly likely that you’ll be spending more money for it. Amazon is the way to go.

  • a little confused

So wait…I have sprint and want to know if I can participate in this snap a tag campaign. The way the description is worded sounds like if you have AT&T, Alltel, or Verizon you can send it via sms but if you don’t than you can send it to the email? Is this how it is or am I just reading it wrong?

  • Muhammad Anis

    I….WANT………..MY BRIEFCASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    :[ not fair lol

  • Matthew

Does anyone know for sure if the four DVD bonus features will be included with the Blu-ray edition? Because that would suck if that weren’t the case!
