insomnia gal3view 2 300x196 Warner Bros. Announces Insomnia Blu rayWarner Bros. has announced a Blu-ray release of Christopher Nolan’s 2002 film Insomnia. The film, starring Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank, is a remake of the 1997 Norwegian film of the same name. The release is set for July 13th, three days before the release of Nolan’s upcoming film Inception. As an incentive to pick up Insomnia, the BD will include ‘movie money’ ($7.50 value) that can be used for an Inception ticket.

Special features for the BD include two commentaries, one with Christopher Nolan and another with Wally Pfister, Hilary Swank, Editor Dody Dorn, Screenwriter Hillary Seitz, and Production Designer Nathan Crowley, as well as four featurettes (“Day for Night: Making the Movie”, “180°: A Conversation with Christopher Nolan and Al Pacino”, “In the Fog: Cinemtography and Production Design”, “Eyes Wide Open: The Insomniac’s World”), the theatrical trailer, an additional scene, and a still gallery. Insomnia’s release on blu-ray will mark the fifth of Nolan’s films to be released on the format. The only title awaiting a release is his 1998 film Following, although it may see Criterion release in the near future.

An additional scene?!?!? Holy cow… that marks the first time a deleted scene will make it’s way to one of Nolan’s DVD releases (besides the quick shot of Ledger on the bus from the TDK Blu-Ray release). Very cool.

  • Eternalist

Indeed. Nolan doesn’t usually allow extras like that to be included.

So, this “movie money” is essentially a ticket for Inception?

Essentially it is Eternalist, although they mentioned it would have a value of $7.50, so it might not cover the full price of an Inception ticket.

Also, i’m pretty sure the additional scene is the same one that’s included with the DVD. In fact, I don’t think the BD gets any new special features that aren’t already on the Insomnia DVD.

Hopefully the German edition includes that “movie money”, too… anyway, with or without, this is a must-buy. :)

George, I didn’t realize the regular DVD edition had the additional scene as well. I must have missed it. Time to go through the Insomnia DVD features again ;)

  • Chee

Awesome, I don’t think I’ll have enough money to buy it though. Just enough money to buy an Inception ticket.

Yeah it does have the deleted scene on the DVD. I also think Nolan does commentry for it as well.
I doubt Following will get a blu-ray release, maybe in the future with a “Nolan boxset”.
But the problem is different studios have different film rights.
WB – Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception
    Newmarket (Sony America) – Memento
Momentum Pictures (Sony America) – Following

    Nice.

I didn’t knew that Memento is on Blu-Ray.

    @Morten

Yeah in America but not in the UK, I have the American version of Memento on Blu-Ray.
    The American version is multi-region.
