Jonathan Nolan Directing The Man of Steel?

Jonathan Nolan Directing The Man of Steel? With numerous (and fairly unbelievable) The Man of Steel rumors flying around over the past week, it seemed unlikely that they could possibly come together to form a truth. And although this may just be another interesting rumor to be considered and tossed out in another week, IESB may have hit on something that rings truer and potentially makes some sense of what has been said recently about the Nolans and The Man of Steel.

Now to get a few things straight, the rumors put Christopher Nolan as the ‘Godfather’ figure to the project (presumably due to his very successful work rebooting Batman) with Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer writing the screenplay. But, according to IESB, word is that Chris Nolan’s involvement is more to help out his brother Jonathan than, say, just to help out Warner Bros. get another franchise off the ground. The rumblings go further to mention that the reason Chris would want to be in this type of role is that The Man of Steel will be Jonathan Nolan’s directorial debut.

On the one hand it seems a little crazy that Warner Bros. would let Jonathan Nolan take on a $200-million Superman film for his first outing as director. But with Chris’ support and the respect Warner Bros. has for the Nolan team, it does feel in the realm of possibility. IESB’s rumor mill continues on to put Christopher Nolan as the director of the future Justice League movie. Although intriguing, I think that’s one that just needs to stay completely in the rumor mill for now.

Lol George — It looks like we were both writing stories about this! I agree that this is rather unbelievable, but kinda exciting if true.

Yawn! This is basically going to be the movie that never sees the light of day (or never existed in the first place).

Thomas Tull (Head of Legendary Pictures) went out of his way to say the movie isn’t ever at script stage just days ago.

And Chris Nolan has already dismissed the idea of a his Batman being involved with a Justice League movie yet now he is supposedly going to direct it. Sure!

I think Chris should stay away from all things Superhero after Batman 3.

I don’t think it’s likely that Chris Nolan is ever going to direct Justice League. I would say that it would be unlikely that he directs Superman, but the whole Justice League movie… it’s nearly impossible:-D Justice League has way too much fantasy and unrealism in it, I don’t think it’s a Chris-type story…

I’m gonna call BS on this. While it’s believable that Jonathan would direct, I don’t believe it coming from the same source that says that Chris would even be associated with a Justice League film. This is wild rumor, and nothing more.

Yea, this is bull crap. Not gonna happen.

If it does, I’ll gladly eat my words.

I think it’s possible Warner Bros is trying to establish a consistency and a quality between all of the DC comics films in the same fashion which Marvel Entertainment is doing with their universe. This way if there was a Justice League movie, it’s all part of one cohesive world.

  • Brendan

I think I would much rather see him direct at least one original film first before he dives into Superman.

  • James

I hope this is true, Jonah is a talented guy.

How many people here actually think Nolan is gonna direct a Justice League film?

Exactly not gonna happen IESB have lost all my respect, clearly desperate for hits.

Latino Review though are always spot on to be fair, they got Ledger right, they got Routh right and they gave away what happens in the Dark Knight about three months before it came out until WB pulled it down from their site.
Suprised this story made the main headline on this site as it’s complete BS tbh.

  • Loser

If this is true it would be the greatest news to ever come out of DC/warner.

Nolan is a genius followed him since Memento.

I will rejoice as long as I can

Nolan is NEVER going to connect his Batman films to the greater DCU. His films were always set up in their own independent universe where it is very clear that superpowers don’t exist. It’s only because Marvel’s doing it that people think it HAS to be that way. But if Marvel wasn’t doing it then no one would want these connected universes. Nolan’s not going to sacrifice his artistic integrity to have Batman in a Superman film.

And, no, there’s no way WB is going to gamble a massive franchise tentpole on a first time director such as Jonathan. I’d be interested if he was going to get into directing, but it’s not going to happen with Superman.

    According to Nolan himself:

“If you think of Batman Begins and you think of the philosophy of this character trying to reinvent himself as a symbol, we took the position… that superheroes simply don’t exist. If they did, if Bruce knew of Superman or even of comic books, then that’s a completely different decision that he’s making when he puts on a costume in an attempt to become a symbol. It’s a paradox and a conundrum, but what we did is go back to the very original concept and idea of the character. In his first appearances, he invents himself as a totally original creation.”

I like this idea much better than Nolan mentoring some other random director. If his brother is involved, then he will have a real reason to want to make this thing work. Otherwise, I don’t see what his reason would be for joining this project.

    Interesting…
