Christopher Nolan Helping Reboot Superman Franchise

>>Update 2.20.10<<: According to DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson, this is nothing more than a rumor. Read more over at MTV.com.

According to Nikki Finke (who we all got familiar with yesterday) and her pal Mike Flemming, Warner Bros is looking to reboot it’s Superman franchise soon, and they turned to Christopher Nolan to oversee development. Nikki’s insiders say Nolan “has been asked to play a ‘godfather’ role and ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground” after the last film failed nearly 4 years ago. Of course, Superman isn’t the only superhero film Chris will be working on, apparently he has an idea for Batman 3. Nikki confirms her story yesterday on Deadline.com saying David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan are currently working on the script.

Deadline.com‘s insider says “It would definitely not be a followup to Superman Returns,”  and Christopher Nolan isn’t likely to direct. Bryan Singer isn’t out of the picture yet, either is Superman himself, Brandon Routh. The history of the Superman film franchise is a long and complicated one. The series has had it’s ups and downs, and is quite familiar with long stages of development that are often nothing but dead ends. Warner Bros is looking to clean up and bring focus to the comic book’s film franchise, and they’re hoping Christopher Nolan can do it. Hell, he did it exceedingly well for Batman.

To understand the history of it all, head over to Deadline.com to read Nikki and Mike’s excellent article explaining it all.

This is win, as long as Chris doesn’t get bogged down with too many commitments.

There’s no way he’s going to do anything beyond consulting. He’s not going to commit to another franchise at this point in his career.

I’m sick to death of these comic films.

I want Nolan to do more films like Memento and The Prestige. Who cares about Superman, Batman etc.

Who cares for Batman ( 1 Billion worth care) And he is only consulting. And he is doing Inception and after Batman 3 i promise you some other brilliant Nolan thought of movie. Because of this partnership with WB.

There are enough comic book films being made and if people want Batman that bad..read the comics/graphic novels.
There is even a Monopoly film in the work???

I would rather see Nolan work on more films like Memento, Inception etc.

Idealist much? Go ahead and tell a billion people to read the comics and not sit their butts in theatres. As long as people keep watching them, Hollywood will keep making them.
Besides, he’s only consulting on Superman, not directing, writing or producing. He’ll make Batman 3 and then he’ll do whatever the hell he wants.

It says he was “asked”, not that he is.

I did notice the use of the word ‘asked’.

Probably he will just explain the guys how to not make a crap movie.

Well, if Nolan will direct, which I highly doubt, he will do a great job at it. But a consoultant is the only thing he should be for the franchise. I’m sure WB wants him to do the Batman franchise only. But it was a smart move that they came to Nolan for advice

He has an idea for a story for Batman 3? PLEASE OH PLEASE, let that not be a rumor.

What? He has his idea for Batman 3? PLEASE be true!

The only advice Nolan is going to give is “DON’T MAKE A SUPERMAN MOVIE!”, bad idea, not now. That franchise needs it’s own time and attention, maybe even years down the road. Not while the greatest super hero series is still going.

^ They either start on a new Superman film now or loose their rights to it.

My theory is that he will consult on the script, and by that I mean tell them when they come to him with crap and suggest possible changes.

Sorry about the double post, but does anyone else find it strange to see the Superman logo on the front page. It just seems off.

btw, this only proves that WB considers Nolan as one of the best movie-makers of this time.

So they start a new superman film now or lose the rights to it? So forced, so unnatural. Guess that’s the business.

He’s got a lot of sway with WB right now. If Inception is a success (which it will be) then WB will bow down to him.

WB is already bowing down to him.

I hope it is just a rumor…I don’t want Nolan to be sucked into things he doesn’t want to be a part of (not that I know that he doesn’t want to be a part of the Superman franchise).
