Rumor has it that the Batman 3 rumors will finally come to an end early next year. (Disregard the irony.) At least, that’s the word from a “solid” and “longtime” source of Batman-On-Film. Here are the details.
There’s some scuttlebutt that in early 2010, Warner Bros. and Chris Nolan will finalize the plan for BATMAN 3, according to a solid and longtime BOF source. Whether there will be an announcement or not remains to be seen.
Our guy told BOF that in his opinion, the longer we don’t here a Nolan/B3 announcement in 2010, the less likely it is that the director will return. (I don’t know if I necessarily agree with that since I’m of the belief that Chris has already signed on.)
We also have to consider that Christopher Nolan‘s Inception is wrapping production in about two weeks. Is Warner Bros. going to announce a third Batman film before, during, or after the (hopefully awesome) marketing campaign for Inception?
Regardless, our source also confirmed the obvious — there’s going to be a BATMAN 3 with or without Nolan. And although they’re operating under the assumption that he will return, they do have their ducks in a row — just in case.
Remember this is only a rumor. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope that this torture will end soon.

Didn’t Batman-on-film’s ‘sources’ say back in Feb that Nolan was signed on (as part of the Inception deal).
on November 17, 2009 at 2:59 pm
Wow. NO !@#$%^&* WAY! If this is true, then we’ll know if Nolan’s going to return for the next Batman film and I REALLY hope he does.

If there’s another Batman film and Nolan isn’t directing it, I will probably go on a killing spree. It has to be Nolan…simply has to. I will completely respect his decision should he choose not to direct it, but I will not go see Batman 3 because it will just ruin what Nolan has built up. I’m sorry, but Nolan is one of the most talented directors working today, and for someone to try and take on Batman just a few years after The Dark Knight is not a good idea (obviously it’s a good financial idea for WB…but that’s about it).

–> Jake
If Nolan doesn’t want to direct Batman 3, WB will make it anyway. They need the money, and it doesn’t matter who is directing (financial speaking), cause it will earn so much money because of the success of The Dark Knight. Everyone will watch the film even tough Nolan isn’t directing.
Tough I certanly hope he will direct it.

I want Chris Nolan badly on this one if he doesn’t come and opts for other movie then it will be disappointing because he did a superb job with Batman series .If Warner Bros choose to make they should consider with Nolan only other wise just shut it down and don’t make a mess of it I love Chris Nolan’s work and I see nobody who can fill his shoes for Batman Series.
on November 18, 2009 at 3:39 pm
I totaly agree with Joe. Nobody can make movies, in this case another Batman, like Christopher Nolan.

I wouldn’t put too much faith in anything “Batman-On-Film” says. Yes Jett has announced stuff that turned out to be true, but most of that stuff had been around online before. I am not hatin on Jett, I think his site is great to anticipate/hype Batman films, but most of the time when he announces big stuff, it is usually to get hits to his site. Come January, if we hear nothing, guaranteed he will say announcement will come in March. Then in March, he will say July. Etc.
on November 20, 2009 at 1:55 pm
I stopped reading when I got to “Batman-On-Film.” Jett doesn’t know any more about what’s going down than any of the rest of us.

The series was so well directed, I can’t imagine anyone doing a better job, and honestly, I can’t see anyone topping The Dark Knight in the batman series.

you know what, afterwatching 12 Monkeys after 10yrs again, i’d say Brad Pitt should be casted for the next Batman
on November 23, 2009 at 7:02 pm
It’s going to be Bale, he’s signed for 3 films.
on November 24, 2009 at 12:14 am
i meant brad pitt should be in the next batman film as a villain, like the riddler…..
on November 24, 2009 at 3:13 pm
And Nolan might have worked with him initially on Memento.
on November 24, 2009 at 3:35 pm
Hmmm, too big of a name, not happening.
on November 25, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Yes will is right! Like Heath LEdger that C. Nolan wanted to work with him before but didn’t get the chance!
Now Brad Pitt can do it! I bet it’ll be INSANE!
on November 25, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Hrmm. I’m not to sure about this. I think Eternalist is right. Brad Pitt is too big of a name to be in Batman 3. He would take away from the role. I believe we discussed this a podcast episode.
on November 25, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Johnny Depp is a big of a name too, if they really wanna a movie to beat or be as good as Th Dark Knight and an actor that would bring a performance as astounding as Heath Ledger did, they’d need Brad Pitt or Depp for the next one.
on November 25, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Or Daniel Day-Lewis! (inner fan talking)
on November 26, 2009 at 3:07 am
Daniel Day-Lewis is another good choice, he did audition for Batman Begins…
on November 26, 2009 at 8:12 am
No he didn’t. He was offered the role, but he turned it down. According to iMDB…

PADDY CONSIDINE IS PLAYING THE RIDDLER… FACT!
on December 24, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Shut up.
on January 2, 2010 at 7:13 pm
Guy Pearce as the villain would work best.
on January 16, 2010 at 9:43 am
It would just be nice to hear some real news instead of constant speculation. Personally, I think the Joker should be recast, perhaps by Depp, in addition to a new villan.
on January 16, 2010 at 9:47 am
Yes, I know I spelled villain wrong.
on January 29, 2010 at 1:27 pm
brad pitt ….as the riddler? NO! he is 2 manly for the part and he isnt dark enough for a nolan riddler.
on February 28, 2010 at 12:58 am
ever heard of spellcheck? who wrote this crap??
on March 28, 2010 at 8:22 pm
The runmor is that Johnny Depp will be the Ridler. I think that Johnny Depp is the only person that could do as good a job as Heath Ledger did as the Joker. Cast Johnny Depp as The Joker!!!
on March 31, 2010 at 4:04 pm
Tom Berenger, he is a great actor he deserve the premium oscar from many years.
Mr. Nolan, You put into cast of this great film, from title “Batman 3″ a great actor how Tom Berenger, with important role.
Best Regards
Fabio Raina – Alesssandria (città) – Italia – (North Italia

Here is what I have heard, which is not speculation. A source from WB themselves.
Some of these characters/plotlines are still in debate and development. I am sure they may/will change.
This all makes sense to me now. Who knows, Maybe this is all bull@#$^. Nolan has been known to throw people off of the scent.
Some of this, you all will not like, but I thought the casting for the Dark Knight. was “off” – Man, was I wrong!
Here is what I was told:
Paul Bettany (Role was offered) – The Joker – A smaller role. No clown makeup or hair coloring. The writers had to adapt to the death of Heath. Just the scars… will have a residence at Arkham and will still call “the shots” to the outside world. He will be more a Hannibal Lector style mentor/Tormentor to…
Sarah M. Gellar – Dr Harleen Quinn – A Clarice Starling type character. Will be driven insane by the Joker. Will give what the Joker always wants – Some one to kill him (yes, he will die), and take over his Anarchy. Was told to picture a female Harvey Dent character (A female Joker maybe????). May be a possible love interest to…
Christian Bale – Batman/Bruce Wayne –Will be back, but will be in retirement as Batman. Bruce Wayne will take Wayne Enterprises to Medical Manufacturing instead of Weapons Manufacturing. Leading to a character named…
Unknown Cast – Dr. Freis – a medical researcher for Wayne Enterprises. He will not be a major character until the end, and Will not turn bad until the end (Possibly a setup for a number 4?). Will kill off a Major character (not going to ruin it for you all), will be in cahoots with…
…Drumroll Please…
Joshua Harto (was offered the role) – Coleman Reese, AKA Mr. Reese, AKA Mys – ter – ries, AKA The Riddler – we all know who this is. Will not be seen much in the movie. Will try to reveal Bruce Wayne, but taunt him first as Mr. Reis. Will be named “The Riddler” by the Joker. Will pull Bruce Wayne out of retirement for Batman to be hunted by a man named…
…Drumroll Please…
Unknown Cast – Chester Cobblepot, AKA The Penguin– A do good gangster that is in cahoots with the Mayor to track down Batman (Quite possibly, may be the Mayor himself). A secret Arms Dealer who is out to get rid all of the “Freaks”… Including Batman, the Riddler, and the Joker. I was told to picture Carmine Falconi (Tom Wilkinson’s role in Batman Begins), meets Tony Soprano.
Justin Timberlake – Robin – Ha ha ha… Just Kidding. I had to throw a joke in there. Some of the rumors are so ridiculous!!! I actually read a rumor (by a sixteen year old) that they were considering him for Robin.
Good News – No Robin, Catwoman, or Bat-Girl!!!!!!!!!!!!! They will be mentioned as an inside joke in the movie. Good for you, Christopher Nolan!!!!
That is all I have heard so far. I do not know about returning characters such as Commissioner Gordon or Alfred.
Oh yeah… One more thing… The movie will be named: GOTHAM CITY
