IMAX and Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Inception will be released to IMAX theatres simultaneously with the film’s wide release in conventional theatres on July 16, 2010. The film will be digitally re-mastered with IMAX DMR technology. This marks the third IMAX project for Christopher Nolan, and the debut for multiple Oscar nominee, and star of the film, Leonardo DiCaprio.
“Chris Nolan and IMAX have proven to be ideally suited to each other, and we’re very excited to bring them back together again for Inception,” said Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Picture’s president of domestic distribution. “With the rapidly growing IMAX network, our IMAX audience base for this release will be significantly larger than it was for The Dark Knight, which will add to the film’s event status.” IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond proclaims “This is an incredible addition to our exciting and growing 2010 film slate. Chris Nolan’s unique vision combined with the talents of Leonardo DiCaprio and the rest of the cast creates the kind of cinematic event that resonates very well with IMAX moviegoers.”
This confirms that there will not be any footage shot an the actual IMAX film format, but rather that the 35mm film will be blown up to IMAX, Ã la Batman Begins.

This doesn’t confirm anything. I don’t see how after Dark Knight they wouldn’t up the ante and do this in IMAX as well. The 35mm stuff will be converted, but that doesn’t rule out the IMAX cameras.

You could be right, but I suspect they would’ve mentioned it if that was the case.

Yeah, it doesn’t explicitly state that they DIDN’T film in IMAX.
Even if they didn’t, there’s obviously a good reason for it.

I’m 90% sure that at least some of the film is being shot on IMAX. The camera rig attached to the SUV (as seen in some of the set reports) looks very similar to the IMAX rig that was used in The Dark Knight.
Plus $200 Million? There’s no way they’re spending that much on a film directed by an IMAX-aholic and not letting him do some IMAX stuff.
