We’ve found out that Christopher Nolan’s Inception jumps into production this month, and with that news, Lisa Wilton of the Calgary Sun managed to find out a bit more. She is reporting that Inception has a monstrous budget of $200-million! The psychological sci-fi thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio will be filming in six different countries; Canada being one of them. According to the Sun report, “[Nolan] has already been to Calgary twice to look at possible locations. [He] scouted nearby foothills and mountainous areas by helicopter and is said to have chosen Fortress Mountain as the main Alberta location.
“The production will make its way to Alberta, Canada in November. Other filming locations will Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Paris, and in Tangiers, Morocco. Filming on the big-budget movie is said to last until December. Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to the record-breaking The Dark Knight is scheduled to hit theaters July 16, 2010. I wonder how accurate that budget is? All of the various filming locations sound amazing however!! Can't wait to learn more! (:

$200 million is insane. I\'m so excited for this. Those locations are going to be great. So many… This film is definitely going to be interesting.

I'm not surprised, it's a sci-fi after all
What interests me more is the fact that Nolan doesn't like CGI in his movies. So what kind of sci-fi is this going to be?

What interests me, apart from this info about the budget, is the fact that is being scheduled for a summer release date. With a budget like that, surely it's going to fall into the category of "summer blockbuster" rather than lower-budget-clever-movie aka Memento, The Prestige… Any thoughts?

It's true, but I don't have a problem with that:-D Nolan is an intelligent filmmaker, he knows what he's doing, and I don't think he wants to lower himself to the level of blockbusters. I mean blockbusters with any deeper thoughts, or something like that.

sorry: *without any deeper thoughts

yea, I was thinking this would kinda be a smaller film more in line with something like The Prestige, but this all is starting to make sense now. Imagine the amount of money being spent on just the salaries for Nolan, DiCaprio alone. Add in the rest of the cast and we\’re probably talking $40 million just on talent. (that is pure speculation btw) Anyways. I am pumped.

I definitely agree with Will and Teddy. I was thinking along the same lines. Low-budget-clever-movie, as Will describes, spells it out perfectly. Now, it seems that this has the potential to be truly spectacular. $200 million budget, filmed in 6 countries, mid-summer release. I\'m stoked.

One other thing, the budget for The Dark Knight was $185,000,000 dollars, so not much in it, but in terms of sheer scale, we can probably expect something of equal if not superior proportions.

Yep I thought it would be like The Prestige too. I was surprised to see the budget on Wikipedia and Googled to confirm! Btw DHOPW42, just because it's a Blockbuster movie doesn't mean Nolan will lower himself
Look at Batman Begins or The Dark Knight; there is so much existentialist philosophy packed in!! I LOVE NOLAN

inception: it is about time travel.
this is the great idea leo is searching for. An idea can transform – leo is searching the dreamworld for this idea which Michael Caine found, but his character stayed in the dreamworld too long and died – he hid this big idea is certain places/planes of consciousness – but ran out of time to use it – and Caine wanted to embed the idea into leo’s brain but Caine knew that Leo was being watched.
Leo wants to find the different sections of the idea, so that he can bring his wife back – who killed herself in the dreamworld. Leo is framed for her murder and goes in search of who planted the seed in her mind to kill herself and why – he heads to france, talks to ellen page who he believes knows what caine was working on – heads to Japan – slowly we find that Ken is searching for the time travel idea – and he got Leos wife killed so that Leo will search out clues and aid them in finding the missing pieces. Leo finds the infomation but he is forced into hiding the idea on various planes of the consciousness and in the end, its a race to find the pieces before each plane slowly evaporates – leo is drowned in order to wake up, his dreamworld fill with water, but he wakes up in a dreamworld, he is forced into waking up. He wakes up in the real real world only to find himelf emaciated. Christain Bale style. The end is in the real world when police come in and find him, try to wake him up but he doesn’t.
“Do I live the dream in hope or live in reality in despair” It is unclear whether he finds the time travel idea – but he closes his eyes and we see him in the passed – wither he’s dead or he’s managed to exist on a different plane. You didn’t hear this from me.
