In a recent talk with TotalFilm, Christian Bale suggested that he wants to break the trend of third movies not living up to expectations.
“Will we do a third movie? It’s got to be the right story. You can’t make something like The Dark Knight and then come out with something disappointing. I would like it if people say, ‘You’ll never make a good third movie.’ I say, ‘OK, let’s make a third movie in that case, let’s prove them wrong. But that’s just me. The fact is, I have to! I’ve signed up! Chris doesn’t. So I’m in a bit of a fix if he says he doesn’t want to!”
With The Dark Knight hitting $1 billion in worldwide box-office sales, making a third film better is going to be a huge challenge. Tell us your thoughts on Bale’s thoughts in the comments below. [via TotalFilm, Filmonic, forum member: dagn96]

C. Bale should make the 3rd because he's by far the best Batman on screen. Nolan is going to do the 3rd movie because he can't walk away from all the $$$ and if it can't beat Dark Knight so what it's still going to be better than most movies and people will still go see it due to the previous 2 films. So lets be honest here. You're going to do it.
